S320CDi Airmatic - I may be worrying unnecessarily but ......

on my S320CDi (2000 model with 100k miles), the airmatic compressor had to be replaced recently (as it had started making really terrible noises) and when I got the car back (minus £600 out of my wallet), I have since noticed the compressor seems to come on more often than I'd expect or maybe I'm just paranoid

For example, if I am travelling on a bumpy road, you know the sort - full of minor pot holes and speed humps, the compressor will start up and will often keep going until I almost come to a standstill, whereupon it will stop. The compressor stopping when the car stops happens too often to be a coincidence but I wonder if anyone can tell me whether this is normal or abnormal behaviour. I have heard some real horror stories about airmatic and the costs of repairs and was wondering if there is anything I should be doing to reduce the chance of an outright failure.

You may have a leak from the main pipe on the compressor. It should be cut clean the re-fitted when replaced
