S500 Gearbox Advice

Hi all, my merc S500 has a small switch next to gear selector marked W and S, ok this stands for winter and summer, in winter mode car pulls off in 2nd instead of first to reduce wheelspin on icy roads, my question is can i leave it on winter setting all the time, idea behind this is to improve fuel economy, sure i have read somewhere this can cause transmission fluid to overheat, thing is i have seen other auto boxes with N and S, normal and sport mode, are mercs the same and will it damage my gearbox leaving it in winter mode all the time

thats what i heard - it also slips the clutches more to reduce wheelspin...

i leave mine in S

fuel economy? S500? you having a laugh? 20mpg? use super unleaded to get 22mpg..

anyway - its E and S on a non-electronic box..
