I couldn't get to the oil filter on my 98 S500 until I jacked up the motor. Just put a block of wood on a floor jack under the oil pan and that was that. But that was sort of like fingernails on a blackboard for me.
The motor feels smooth as a baby's butt, and car is wonderfully smooth. So other than the oil filter access, should I replace the mm's?
Can I substitute some non-hydraulic mm's (solids)? That motor is HEAVY. It appears the hydr lifters collapse in short time - especially if neglected by previous "owner" like my car has been. (Didn't change oil in 24k miles).
Also, should the transmission mounts be done at the same time? What about transmission/motor bushings, and/or torque converter?
I've read with interest in other threads that replacing motor mounts could be a laborious proceedure, like re-aligning flywheel sensors, removing a/c compressors, trans dipstick etc. Anyone know what the standard MB shop fee is on this? Like I said for some reason, this one intimidates me. Like I'll let some gorilla out of its cage about half way into it...
