Remarkable one owner car with 50k miles for £13000

The underlying saloon is rock solid

The only thing that "goes wrong with them" is that people skimp on the maintenance of that V12 engine.

The unanswered question from the listing is just exactly how has it been maintained?

If it's MB specialist / main dealer every year or two, then great. If it's Jack's corner garage, then close inspection's important.

Coil packs go wrong which is nothing to do with skimping. ABC is not as good on this vintage either.

These are not as reliable as W221s either from what I've read and seen.

Indes on here would be able to call.

I guess if you got a late well-cared for S600L, that would be your best bet.

Coil packs are i think a grand a side so that's two or two and a half grand every seventy thousand miles or so.

Of course as well as the packs breaking all on their own they can also break when removed to get at the spark plugs for a big service.

That and the suspension are the issues as i understand them.

That and the fact that you can pick them up cheap and few people paying a handful of thousands of pounds for a car are likely to spend the same again on maintenance means i would inspect the history really really carefully.

I looked at a couple a few years back and did not find one that wouldn't have costed a couple of grand in bodywork, too. They do rust.

Expensive car when new so probably well cared for.

Just to amplify my point about "one owner." The guy who bought this paid more than £150k (sterling) in 2003 - New Zealand car import taxes are horrendous.

As the car stayed in the hands of one owner, it has "probably" been well stored and maintained, which would include renewal of coil packs, maintenance of suspension, and all the usual annual maintenance points. But all of that is easy to verify. It's when cars go multiple owner that later owners start scrimping on the maintenance.

To apply a bit of context in terms of UK prices, a normal multi-owner 2003 S600L would still struggle to achieve £7k and would take an age to sell. (Hadleigh have been trying to sell a similar mileage S600L for £10k for THREE YEARS now)

Or £4k for a UK one with 133k on the clock?

If £12k seems a lot to pay for a 50k one owner car that cost six figures new but which is a 26 hour flight away, and several ferries to drive back home...

How about £4k for UK car with 133k on the clock. "Now that does sound like a bargain."

This is the earlier engine so not quite as good. Don't ask me why these dealers don't clean their cars before taking photos - seems ridiculous really.

I really liked the look of this car when i was looking, Lovely low miles, Coiil packs can be refurbed now but still expensive, No Sbc cost to factor which would help pay for it them but still ABC suspension to contend with.

Lovely

I spotted this car when I was trying to decide what to buy next.

It didn't make sense for me because one of the reasons I was moving on from the E was because the niggles and repairs needed as the car gets older. I didn't want the hassle and couldn't be bothered with all that anymore.

But I still liked the idea of this S600 - they are appealing!
