The Metro newspaper has a very sad story about a couple who have died in an accident whilst putting their car (SL) into a “plastic bag” -( I imagine they mean a Carcoon type item). So sad.

That has to be an april fools! Do you know how long it takes to be overcome by carbon monoxide from a car exhaust!

Very tragic indeed.

Don't these things have safety features?

A big sign saying the car must not be driven-in, but pushed-in?

Or that running the engine inside the device is dangerous?

I knew them both, they were very active members of the official club, very sad

There appear to be many versions of these vehicle storage units- Carcoon perhaps the most well known. They vary in function and design and thus their interaction with any vehicle. With CARCOON the vehicle drives onto a base- the cover draped over the vehicle once the engine is stopped - and then the cover is zipped to the base. Other systems are like polytunnels supported by a frame into which cars can be driven /reversed. Problem with those is the potential for a very rapid build up of carbon monoxide in a very confined space with tragic results. One video example Cair-o-port----NOT repeat NOT !! necessarily the make involved in this particular tragedy many others available- just used for demo purposes. Lethality can be judged by consideration that vehicle exhausts were used as an adhoc method for the "final solution" in the NAZI death camps till they found ZYKLON-B.!!

Very sad.

Reading between the lines, I bet they’d always reversed it in to the tent so it was only a matter of time this would happen sadly..

A bit like people who use a disposable barbecue in the 'door way' of their little tent to shield it from the rain while they are inside...dead in no time at all . It has happened more than once. This is the first time I have heard of this unfortunate turn of events. Very sad.

Any half-wit can buy a disposable barbecue at Tesco and misuse it.

But you would have thought that two car enthusiasts of many years experience who buy a specialised piece of kit whould handle it more professionally.

Very very sad.

There's no detailed timeline in that report but I wonder at what point the fire service were alerted. I'd have expected they'd have been sent in parallel with the ambulance service. That might have happened but perhaps the response was from a part-time station so took a while.

wow, never heard of these things before, and looking at a few of them, my overriding thought is that they are for people that have too much money and don't know what to do with it.

Very sad story that two folks ended up dead
