So long as you have a licence you can run - so dont waste the chance for a first time out

The idea is to get a baseline time for your car, then you can see how engine and suspension improvements affect your car in the real world. In your case it will give you an idea of how successful your turbo conversion has been. you get a time tomorrow and compare it to next years time after the blowers gone on.

It is also a good indicator of just how good the std car is in comparison to others ie Scoobies running 14.5, escort cossies between 14 and 15, but a slow car will still run 18/19 seconds if driven hard
If you think about it, a 1.4 5 dr "grannywagon" Rover will run 18.5 seconds - and a Mclaren F1 11.5secs - not a huge amount in it in actual time - but on the track the difference would be awesome

Marks guide to running at the pod

First things first - having read this guide - go and watch a few cars run before getting in the queue yourself - you cant Q and watch others start at the same time!

Dont be anxious- just treat it like a std "traffic light Grand Prix" and watch for the christmas tree lights.

Remember that the startline is covered with a "glue" - dont worry it wont stick to your car - it just makes the track a bit sticky - consequently you will have a bit more traction than usual - be ready for the car "bogging down" because the tyres wont spin as easily - so use more revs than usual to get off the line

1. when they enter the track area - you will see a lot of guys "burn out" - this heats the tyres and helps with the launch - not absolutely necessary on your road car - but spectacular at time

2.The first set of orange lights are "pre stage" - this means you are entering the start area

3. Ease very slowly forward until you hit the "stage" or second set of orange lights - now you're ready for the off - possibly waiting for the other car to "stage" also

4. Once both cars have staged the green light is not normally more than a couple of seconds away!

5. Once the lights go green - off you both go!! - and less than 20 seconds later it will all be over!

If you jump the start you are considered to have "broken out" and your time will not count - but you also cant wait there all day.

Most races are won or lost on the startline - the better your reactions - the better your time - although on RWYB days the time on your slip will be the time taken to run the 1/4 - not exactly a head to head as you could start 2 seconds later and cross the line second - but still have a faster time for the distance

On a very bust day I would expect to get 3 or 4 runs in all day - and spend most of the day in the queue - but I reckon tomorrow will be fairly quiet - so you could get 20 or more in

Dont throw your timeslips away - I want to see whatI missed !!!

Have a great day

Mark

PS - I forgot to mention - in the very very unlikely event anyone breaks anything on their car - DONT call the AA to the Pod - they consider it racing and wont respond - just tow it a mile or 2 down the road - then call them !!!!

I've only seen it once this year - 2 dumb yanks called the AA and they replied that they wouldnt come - as he had already given his reg no - he was scuppered

Have just had it confirmed, I'm coming!

Shall be leaving around 9.00 in the morning, hoping to arrive about 10.30

See you all there

Happy Birthday Billy

Have a great day !!

Mark

Thanks Mark, Sorry you can't make it, hope to see you at the next one?

Oh no, look at the time, my race has already started. Can I get there for 11.00? I think yes

How did it go then .

Left the house at 9.00, arrived at SP 11.15, met up with Koolvin & Co.

Walked down to sign on only to be told "Too busy mate we've already signed 250 people" GUTTED!!!

Watched some very interesting races & had a great day.

Next time I'll get out of bed early!

Nice to eventualy get to meet everyone and sorry for letting the brother in-law bring his Scooby.

Paul

Thats just what I thinking - I've just got in and decided to have a look how it all went - nothing posted yet

Will admit to being slightly relieved when not allowed to race and had a great day as did my family. Really good to see people and cars in a pixel free environment for a change. Good choice of venue and would welcome meeting there again

Sorry lads

To be honest I really didnt think that it would be full today!
Normally, at the end of the season there aren't too many people there, so signing on isnt much of a problem. If they already had 250 by 11.00am then there must have been a few good races to be seen at least.

When we (Rovers or CRX's) go as a group we normally meet at 07.30 and get to the pod for 9.00 - straight in to sign on and get to the front of the queue ready for racing - then we sod of for a bit of breakfast! - still maybe next time.

At least it seems like you all enjoyed it

I should of warned you all, Northamptonshire is crawling with mobile speedtraps. I have just seen a BIG Police Transit with camera gear in the back, above the A14 One of the advantages of having a C180,

They usually have smaller vans that sit on the bridges over the A14 and A6 that operate out of the side doors. This Transit had at least two cameras working from the rear.

In Northampton itself they have several pieces of road with cameras that work out your average speed between cameras, so it is no good slowing down just for the cameras!!

Glad to hear you all had a great time at the Pod.

Yeah, Northamptonshire loves it's cameras.

Mobile traps, Forward Facing True Velo's (like Gatso but blue) and more!!

So any takers for 1 more this year - weather permitting ?

Mark

Snap.

And we are going EARLY this time, like Mark suggested.

I may run if there is nobody looking, and there is no queue in which to build up hesitation!!!!!
