Santa Pod - who's coming??

Black180,

Why don't you tell us about the last time you visited Santa Pod, back in 1979, I believe you have a funny story?

Well, if you insist.

It was my first and only visit to “The Pod”;  probably around 1978, I went with some friends. One of them went for a s**t in the toilets, which were the type that incorporate a hinged flap in the bottom of the pan that allows you know what to slide off into the stinking pit below. There were several toilets above the same pit. He was sitting there and heard some laughing and sniggering from further down the line of traps, he also became aware of a smell usually associated with Top Fuel Alcohol burning race cars. The next thing he heard was something like WHOOMPATAH, together with flames shooting up between his legs and the sound of people running out the door laughing even louder now. Nice one, they’d poured fuel down and lit it. He wont forget that visit to the loo’s at Santa Pod in a hurry.

My misfortune that weekend was a smashed windscreen, and collapsed suspension in my Morris Minor. Had to drive home with no glass in the front and a brick holding the car up off the tyre. Damned torsion bar suspension.

I wonder why I ever want to go back really.

I realise your sides must be aching with laughter (or not) but let’s not forget the original purpose of this thread – WHO’S GOING. Is it still on or not?

Could I bring my 6 year old son?

Of course you can Billy, no doubt I will have one or both of my children with me <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Maff, 11.00 sounds about right.

Good, I'm just a bit unsure about how child friendly it is, another child (brother-in-law) has not stopped harrasing me to go so that he can race me, or anyone else in his Subaru!!!

He's got it bad, he actualy believes it's a good car!!!!!

11:00 sounds good.

I was relying on Mark300SL to be with us, but in case he can't make it does anyone else know the setup/layout at the Pod?

I am thinking we could do with knowing a meeting area that will not be crowded and that we can issue a description of beforehand?

I may well still be there !

But just to add more grief - we've had a bereavement in the close family yesterday <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

However, I will knock up a brief dos and donts etc this evening and post it tonight for everyone to see.

But dont count me out just yet!

Mark

That's the spirit!

How

Is there a landmark here we could meet at?

Looking at that aerial photo, is there perhaps a meet point - car park, services etc that we could gather at outside of the actual Santa Pod grounds?

What do guys think? I reckon I could have a lonely day wandering around that crowd, if we don't meet first!!

Come on guys, lets arrange a definate time and place to meet

Although I have yet to consult as map (yes I know I need SatNav) I know which direction to head in and I can get to Northampton cross country from my house.

However, I am willing to meet at say M40 Oxford Services if enough people will be passing by that way so we can go in convoy.

Can someone who lives closer (Black180 ?) suggest somewhere closer to the Pod that we could gather??

do we have a definitive list of people?

I'll meet you at Oxford services Graham.

Let's wait and see what Mark comes up with. That photo's not of a RWYB day and there won't be anywhere near as many people there.

I'm still going <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> Not on the strip though.

I don't know that area to well, so can't suggest a closer meeting place.

I don't know the area either, so Oxford services would suit me fine. Which side of the services - if we meet there? (There may only be one side I guess&#33<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

The red line is the road into the pod from the entrance.
Follow it all the way around the back of the start line and down the other side.

The red cross is the &quot;greasy spoon&quot; cafe, and try to park near it if possible - at 11.00am you may already be too late to get a &quot;group parking&quot; spot.

I usually go m25 - stop at south mimms, then M1 stop at Toddington - but you feel free to organise it as you will

South mimms to toddington is about 25 mins - toddington to the Pod is about 30-40 mins

1. Do not speed inside the grounds! - save it for the track
2. l any wives/girlfriends in advance about the toilets!
3 Greasy spoon is actually ok - but its not a restaurant - just a cafe!
4 - NO DRIVING LICENSE - NO RUN !!!!!!
5. Have fun - and I hopre to see you there

If I think of anything else I will post it later

Mark

Thanks Mark, I'll make my way straight to the Greasy Spoon for 11.00. Hope you can make it.

Look forward to meeting your cars, oops I mean you there <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
