Hello,

Forgive me because I am new to MB and the Comand system, and not great with electronics at the best of times:dk:

I am using a Comand system on a 54 plate e-class.

I got a SAP v2 cradle from ebay and I am struggling to pair it with my Nokia E63. So I go to the bluetooth menu on comand, pressed the button on top of the cradle, and it picks up my phone OK.

Asks for PIN... I enter the four digit code I use to turn on my phone.
My phone name shows up on the display. According to the instructions I should then be getting a 16 digit PIN number appearing... but nothing. If I press 'OK' I am just asked if I want to de-authorise my phone.

So the bluetooth device seems to be able to make contact with my phone, but for some reason I can't get an active connection.

Any advice much appreciated.

Jon.

The SAP V2 pairs completely differently to other cradles and does not use the comand Bluetooth menu.

You need to read this;

Thanks - I had those instructions supplied with the SAP cradle, but they left me stumped!

I've got as far as getting it to display the name of my phone, but can't get the 16 digit pin. At paras 14-15, it mentions a "NUM" function key on the audio system. I don't seem to have one, any ideas?

what head unit do hou have? I was in the same position with a c class. If its audio 10 then i don't think it can be done. Mine only shows 12 of the 16 digit code required Should come up on the dash display.

I'm going to ne trying a viseeo mb2 soon to see how that works out.

When you see the name of your phone in the call list, select it. The full 16 digits (8 pairs of two) will come up on the comand screen or sometimes in the instrument cluster. Type this in to your phone.

Where are you based? you can always pop over to Woking if you are not too far and i'll pair it up for you.

Cheers Alfie, in Derbys, so it would be a bit of a hike!

I have however made some progress - have finally got the 16 digit code and have seemingly paired my phone with the car (got the little ascending melody :)). Only thing is the car now seems to think my phone is switched off - I keep getting the message "Please switch on phone".

The only thing I can think off is that it didn't ask me (as per the instructions) to enter the PIN number of the Sim card) so I'm wondering if that info is somehow missing?

Cheers.

Update - a bit of googling has revealed the answer. I'm with 3, which apparently isn't compatible.

Grrrrrr..... I guess I will have to change to another network unless anyone has any ideas how to get around this??

Am I right in thinking any Nokia on any network (apart from 3) should work with SAP v2?

no. Only nokias with Sim Access Profile support work with the SAP V2 cradles.

If your phone, regardless of make (*), has a 'Remote SIM mode' function in its bluetooth connectivity options, then it should pair with the SAP cradle.

* MB's official SAP compatibility listing is not an exhaustive list. My Samsung Omnia i8910 paired perfectly happily, yet never appeared on any compatibility listing.

My brand new Nokia N8 doesn't either (to my knowledge) yet the Remote SIM mode is an accessible function. I'm yet to see if it pairs with the car as I don't have the car to hand at the moment (long story).

Correct of course but is there any other Nokia model except the N900 that would not support BT SAP and is on sale?

Unsure to be honest as so many new phones come out these days. It was certainly true a short while ago where not all Nokias had SAP support.

Equally, we have heard of others who have managed to get non Nokia phones to work with the SAP V2. I know of a couple of BB users who have managed it. Perhaps RIM have finally sorted out the bugs which prevented it before.

Thanks for your advice. Have just ordered an E72 with Vodafone. It has the Sim Access Profile so fingers crossed that will pair ok...

My intention was not to exclude other phone brands. I've also heard about RIM phones working with V2 even if initially the V3 adapter was needed. There are Siemens phones (old) and several Samsung phones that support BT SAP.

My first BT SAP (after market) HF kit was from at least 7 years ago when all new Nokia models did not support BT SAP but many did and soon after all did (all that had BT support to start with). In any case, better to check before buying the phone, be it which ever brand.

OK, so I've finally managed to pair my new E72, or at least I thought I had. Until I installed Mail for Exchange on it. That seems to have well and truly *$%*& things up! Now it finds the phone but seems to disconnect immediately!

Is there any way around this? I am pretty reliant on MfoE for work. I can see myself having to keep both phones on the go at this rate!

Strange but MfE does activate different security features on an E-series phone when it is installed/taken into use. Depending on the company configurations, one is that it forces the security code in use possibly with a timer. One possibility would be that MfE activation had deleted previous authentications, you could try to pair the phone at the car again if it makes any difference.

I've had MfE with several phones (E-series and others) and have had no problems with BT SAP. But I have always had MfE installed before pairing the phone with BT SAP at the car, perhaps that is why I never experienced similar problems.

Reinstalled MforE, and finally... success! Still struggling to sync contacts though. When I put in 0000 I get a 'please wait' message and then after a couple of minutes the bluetooth disconnects.

Still, I don't use the phone regularly whilst driving so as long as I can make and receive calls it's not the end of the world if my contacts don't sync!
