Can anyone give me a rough price on how much it would cost to have sat nav/ DVD installed in my W204.

You have to be very careful here.

Mercedes install additional cooling fans. Many of the installers don't bother and claim it is not necessary. I can assure you that Mercedes would not spend money putting something in that was not necessary and not visible. Without them COMAND units can cook on a hot day.

You need to have the NAV instructions enabled in the instrument cluster, or you are missing a nice part of the system - this requires Star Diagnosis and most installers don't have it (so you have to go pay Mercedes to do it)

The data-card at Mercedes (the record of the config of your car) needs updating, or if during service they update the firmware on the COMAND system then all will stop working as it will unconfigure the NAV system.

Make sure the latest map is installed on the system. It is currently 2014/2015 but 2015/2016 is due very soon for both pre and post MY2012 face-lift cars.

Make sure the latest firmware is installed on the system, again this requires Star Diagnosis.

Ideally a genuine Mercedes GPS antenna should be used, they are more £ but work better.

If your car is post the Model Year 2012 facelift, its even more important to have the firmware/etc updated as part of the install process and the datacard is updated or you won't be able to get map pins from Mercedes later, you'll have to pay over the odds for black-market ones.

If it is Model Year 11 or before, make sure you are getting the new air-vents with the button to open/close/adjust the angle of the COMAND screen.

So, in summary, at least ask
a) Will they update the datacard and do they have Xentry ONLINE to code the system
b) Will they install the additional cooling fans
c) Will they install latest maps and firmware
d) If its MY11 or before, will they put the new vents with additional switch in.
e) Will they use a genuine Mercedes GPS antenna.

The cost depends on whether
a) your car is a facelift car or not
b) The model year (the vents change colour depending on model year, MY10/MY11 vents are more expensive
c) You want single disk or DVD-changer version.

You should contact alfie via Mercedes Retrofit Specialist - Comand.co.uk giving him your VIN number and he can easily give you an exact price !

Cheers

Richard

I had an Alpine satnav installed for about £200, that is taking the existing comand and the CD changer out of the glovebox, everything works fine with all the latest maps and have phone and mp3, DVD, they also fitted a reversing camera. All good and works well.
