Try removing fuse for a full reset and see if it is the same. If it is it needs a new gps antenna, it is a common problem on the e-class and been covered plenty of times on here try a search.

where do i find the antenna in the estate

Its in the top of the tailgate unless you have the shark fin on the roof.

A replacement can be placed elsewhere making it easy to sort out.
