Sat Nav Upgrade

Hi,

This is my first post so be gentle, thanks.

I have purchased a Mecedes e class 250 cdi sport 2011. I would like to upgrade the stereo from an Audio 20 to Comand NTG4.0, this is the model that will fit my. I have a number of questions and would be greatful if some one could help.

Is the Comand NTG4.5 compatiable with my car and a staifght forward fit or should I stick with the Comand NTG4.0 since it is 100% compatible.

If i was to purchase a NTG 4.0 from ebay does any know a descent comapny that can install it and program the cluster via star and the stereo. Also would I require the following ducting kit supplied by command or can I just upgrade.

The kit consists of instructions and all parts needed expect the display and COMAND unit and the GPS antenna. - These include the fan ducting, fan and wiring looms, and antenna adapter.
Please do not "skip" the fan installation, the unit will overheat in warm weather and cause damage to itself and possibly your car.

Does any one have any guides on the process of upgrading Audio20 to command ntg 4.0 for mercedes e class w212. Is the process of upgrading the screen involve removing the dash or not.

I have googled the following three companies are they any good with installs and would they use the ducting kit - they charge around £900 for install, has any one used

Yes you do need that installation kit. The companies offering cheap NTG4 retrofits dont install the additional ducts and fans.

The first link you have posted belongs to the company called Autologics LTD. I contacted them regarding a full comand retrofit in a Mercedes W204 C-Class (very similar comand system for your W212) and they don't install the hidden fan system (ducting, fans etc...). Also, they don't update the vehicle's Data-Card at Mercedes since the navigation unit is from a Mercedes specialist and not dealer - you can assume that they are refurbished? You can contact the company as well and check regarding these issues.

Thanks guys I will use command, only issue is they are charging almost 1800 for the install but I guess you pay for what you get.

Jheezee thats a lot of money i am looking to do the same but myslef i have seen on ebay the system for around 450 and then the fitting kit so hopefully do it for 650? just need to know about removing the screen if anyone knows?

If you can fit yourself you can save on labour costs. You will still need coding with STAR to enable navigation on the cluster.
