I have a ML320 2008 and the sat nav is not showing the right location when activated. Is this a common fault and how do i fix it. i was thinking of a after market unit but i think the gps sensor is the problem? any ideas Thanks Nigel

Sounds like the antennae is failing/failed. They are available on Ebay and are quite cheap.

Not sure about for your model, but I am sure someone will be along soon who knows!

Welcome.

I am assuming that your satnav is COMAND NTG2 or NTG2.5? The latter will have an SD-Card slot on top of the CD slot.

There should be a SYSTEM screen where you can check the number of satellites that the satnav can see (the location of this information varies and depends on the COMAND version).

It would typically see 5-7 satellites, but in any event it shouldn't really see less than 3.

If it does not see a sufficient number of satellites, or none at all, then you may need a new GPS antenna.

Also, it is recommended to ensure that the satanav software (firmware) is up to the lateset version, though this is a job for the dealer or for a specialist.

www.comandonline.co.uk are near M3 J3, so about an hour's drive from you. They can diagnose the issue, upgrade the firmware, and replace the GPS antenna if need be. They can also update the maps if not already on the latest version. You can contact them on [email protected].

I have fitted an aftermarket Pioneer unit to my CLK. I went to the trouble of dropping the headliner to fit a shark fin antenna to get the best DAB and GPS signals I could achieve. The trouble with a satnav stuck on the screen in cities is that you lose the signal between high buildings. I am central London quiet a bit and find the roof antenna works very well. The DAB signal is amplified so it rarely drops out and the GPS signal is good around high buildings.

Thanks something to think about.

Hi There is not a sd card slot and i tried to find the screen which shows satellites but the only message that came up was No GPS signal so i assume the gps antenna is not working. Is the antenna the small box glued to the windscreen behind the interior mirror??

On my car it's in the 'shark fin' antenna on the outside of the roof. Not sure where it would be on yours.
