I wonder what the legality is of using this product whilst driving. It could open up the whole debate on navigation systems.

If that works on the move, then it is just plain ridiculous.
My guess is that it will only work when stationary.

I don't think its for cars (if that makes sense) more like a stand-alone portable tv with sat nav capability. Like the iphone and other smart phones have sat nav built in, I think this is what that is for.

EDIT:OK, just read the description-maybe its for passengers??? (Silly me)

EDIT 2: Pretty cheap isn't it?

in any respect, being software based it will be trivial to alter it so it will allow playback on the move

tv tuners dont work on the move... they lose reception so no problem there..

So if you have one installed in your car for passengers, say via rear monitors, the tv function won't work once you start moving?

nope not the one on my SEC anyway... I have one of the latest Kenwood units.. freeview or not, the aerials cant keep a consistent signal once moving... only when stationary.

Are you sure this is still the case with a digital TV and a decent mobile aerial?

Besides which, these devices can play video saved on SD cards (not sure what format) so you could still have video in motion with the Sat Nav overlayed in the corner and not have any concern of signal qualities.

But with the analogue turn off coming the digital signal is going to be increased and they will work better. My Merc one works when moving through the rear screens but not at high speeds.

my bmw was the same when i fitted DVB-T to it.

My Nokia streams Sky Sports - same thing sort of but obviously I wouldnt use it on the move.

A few years ago when I was a motorway warrior I had a BMW 7 series with a tv and it went to sound only on the move, so many times I was praying for a jam so I could watch cash in the attic!!

By all accounts, the reception on this unit is crap anyway. The TV tuner function is set to lock out when the unit is moving above a set speed.
