Mercedes manufacturer’s warranty runs out this month ,I discovered my sat nav is running on 2016 firmware phoned dealership today booked in for Thursday for update free of charge.great service.
Well done Mercedes.

Well done you for noticing it. MB have been getting away with missing free map updates for years.
My 2014 E class is still running a 2014 map despite having 3 years of free map updates and serviced only at the main dealer.
It's going to cost a few ££ to get the latest 2019 maps installed now.

Mercedes Southampton actually updated my maps in October without being asked. No one was more surprised than me. I wasn’t going to bother then because I wanted a quick while-u-wait service but they still managed to do it all in 1h40.

So they are getting praise for not doing what they should have been doing at each service?

They have just reacted to you pointing out they have been ripping you off for years. If that's people's reaction, no wonder they just continue to take people for a ride.

Make sure they do firmware on the COMAND, and maps. Its two separate processes, and if they don't get the map licence key before 3 year deadline the system automatically charges the dealer.

Latest version for 2017 C class is V13.0 (2019), its well over a year old now so expecting a new one soon ...

True, and twice they told me my maps had been updated when they hadn't bothered to do it. And when you question them & point out the mistake they start telling a whole load of lies to put you off for another year.

I don’t get my vehicle serviced at the main dealer as to exspensive as compared to a Mercedes independent.

My experience is that with a Service Care Plan that covers the 'big' items, dealer service is actually less expensive than independent specialists. Said that, specialists often provide a better service than dealers.... personally I have used both dealers (on a Service Care Plan) and specialists, as appropriate.
