Sound trivial but he should consider himself lucky not to have collected that in the eye.

Eight sausages to the pound, say 40 mph each car so 80 mph closing speed plus 20 mph for throwing and I reckon that comes to about 40 foot pounds of Kinetic Energy or 54 joules per sausage if you go metric!

60 mph each car plus 20mph for thrown object and you get 106 Joules

In the US some consider that anything with a Kinetic Energy of over 122 Joules is a potentially lethal (as opposed to non lethal) weapon. For comparison note that the Kinetic Energy of the British Army L21A1 baton round at 35 metres is 230 Joules.

So if someone challenges you to frozen sausages at ten paces think very carefully....
