The fluid was changed at about 85000 miles by MB in 2008 (before my ownership) and I currently have 105700 on the clock so should I be thinking about having the fluid changed?

If so what so sort of bill can I expect - I know I can call for 'estimates' but it would be useful to have an idea first.

Thanks in anticipation.

I believe that brake fluid should be changed every two years so I would say yes get this done. Don't know about dealer pricing but a decent indy should be very reasonable. Had mine done as part of a full service last month so don't have exact breakdown but had all fluids (except ATF) changed out for £200 including the dreaded. Wouldn't expect to pay anymore than £50 - £60 if this was done on it's own

I think MB retail price is £80 odd but you should be able to get that down somewhat. Maybe £60 odd is right.
It's more than 2 years since last fluid change. I believe in 2 year changes as the service guides say (3 years maximum).

The brake fluid should be changed every two years, to change it properly will need Star Diagnosis procedure. I think it is around 1.2hrs labour plus two tins of MB fluid

I rang Watford MB Dealership on Monday for the same thing and was quoted £80 including VAT

Regards

Probably as SBC not the most reliable system IMO and relies on the good old hydraulic system if all goes belly up :-)

Don't think it is quite as simple as that. If it were that simple then perhaps MB would not have discontinued SBC from 2007.

I paid itro £120 for an SBC fluid change when the car was 4yrs old. That proved an excellent investment when the SBC pump subsequently threw in the towel. Despite no service history by Merc after yr3 they noted the brake fluid change (by themselves) and changed the pump/fluid gratis.
Don't know what their approach would have been without that stamp but I'm pleased it was there.

They change those up to 8 years old no questions. I have had lots of cars done now, some with no history at all.
