Car
W211 E200 K - they don't make em like they used to, which is why it's been replaced with a 911 :)
Anybody with this feature having problems with it?

The reason I ask is that this is/should be a handy feature for anybody, but particularly for me with a manual and a particularly awkward parking space at work. The idea is that you give the brake pedal an extra kick and it engages the brakes (without having to keep your foot on the brake pedal) until you press the accelerator again.

Problem is that I have only managed to engage SBC Hold twice in about forty attempts (pi$$ed off lots of people behind me on my stop/start journey to work this morning).

Can you get yours to work every time?

Cheers

OG

I was only told about this the other day, a Salesman said that if I was on a hill and the car was edging forward, then press the brakes twice and the car would "Hold" until the accelerator was pressed.:confused:

I have tried this many times and have not been able to make it happen????:crazy: :crazy:

Anyone else know about this?? Anyone got it to work???:confused:

<The manual says>

You can activate SBC Hold if
- the vehicle is stationary,
and
- a forward gear, reverse gear or gear range N is engaged.

<To do it it says>

- Depress the brake pedal when the vehicle is stationary.
- Quickly depress the brake pedal to the stop until the SBCH meassage is shown in the multi function display.
- Release the brake pedal.

<It goes on to say>

You can not activate SBC Hold if
- the parking brake is depressed
- the driver's door or the binnet is open
- the engine is not running.

It should perhaps go on to say 'or if the day of the week ends in Y'

Bryan, I thought only the 2004 models had this, Maff posted some info on it a while ago.

You could be right Richard.:confused:

I've just checked my manual and there is nothing in it about SBC Hold in it. Missed out again.:devil:

Time for a new car? We missed out on this, DVD Command and active light system.

Its like having a new mobile or computer, by the time you get out of the showroom it is out of date.:crazy:

Never mind it is still the best car that I have ever owned.:bannana: :bannana:

Yes, SBC Hold, SBC softstop and SBC traffic is new for 2004 only.
There is talk of a software upgrade for 2003 models over at mbworld.org forums

I have got SBC hold to work every time in the SL, and is a great feature. I simply stop, then press down, and keep pressing on the brake, until the SBC-H shows in the cluster.

SBC softstop is also a nice feature, seems strange not taking your foot off of the pedal just before coming to a complete stop. Very smooth.

SBC-T (or SBC-Traffic) is also a great feature, and makes traffic jams easy. No need to use the brakes. The sharper you accelerate, the quicker it stops, and long runs give gentle braking to the car in front. Seems strange not having to use the brake pedal!

Worth upgrading the 2003's to if it's free and easy.

Shut up your making me jealous.:D :D :D

Let's hope it is "Free", but I doubt it.:eek:

Tell you what Bryan, I'll do you a swap - your Torque for my SBC Hold:D

Maff, interested in hearing that you can activate it every time. Obviously it's a different model but mine is very hit and miss. Do you press the brake to the floor (stop) as they refer to it in my manual?

It's in the dealers in a couple of weeks to replace the stereo facia so I'll get them to check it.

I guess I press the pedal down between half and three quarters of the way (don't like pressing too hard!).
The first few times I could not get it to work, but found out that was user error ;) Now I simply press that little bit harder when on hills.

Saying this, i've only had the car 1/2 day, so things might change in the next few weeks!

Off topic but why are they changing the stereo facia? I only ask becuase I've noticed mine is scratched, I assumed it would be the whole unit.

I say the facia Richard but it may be the whole unit, I'm not sure. Bottom line is that there is a mark on it that looks like a sticker has been removed and left a sticky residue but in fact the 'sticker' appears to be have removed the top layer of the screen.

My SBC-H works very well. To engage it I have to be idle, on D, foot on brake, then lifting off the brake about half way then pressing it all the way down. I haven't tried it on a slope yet, maybe later today.

On the SBC Hold and SBC Stop, worth trying again Richard and Brian, as I have both on my car and they were in all the marketing blurb when I ordered my car back in January...

On the stereo fascia, last time I was in my dealers, he mentioned that MB where looking at doing something as they were too easily scratched... (I had talked about a problem with the display, and when I turned up he asked if the problem was a scratch... It wasnt, as I have the APS50, and the problem I thought I had turns out to be the norm....)

Le Burpor... ahhh, I think you've got it mate - I'm stopping, taking my foot off the brake and then quickly putting it back on to the stop, looks like I should be lifting off 'a bit' rather than all the way:o

I'm going to give it a try later and let you know.

Cheers

I tried this at lunch time and nothing happened :( maybe one day we'll get a software upgrade!

Softstop was in the marketing blurb but I didn't see anything about SBC hold when I ordered mine.

Works a treat! Don't need to lift off at all. All you do is press the brake until you stop and then push the pedal to the floor thus engaging SBC Hold.

I wouldn't be too worried about having this, probably a bit of a gimick for most.

I have to ease up on the brake pedal about half way and then press down all the way to engage it. It could be that my initial braking is a bit heavy and the pedal was already past its 'SBC-H activation' point. Glad to hear you've got it working consistently now :bannana:

Not a gimmick for me. I will definitely continue using this feature.
