Anyone know if the OBD SBC reset tools work, anyone bought and used one. Seems like a cheap option against a new unit or having it reset by a specialist. My car is at 115k miles and still on its original pump which still works fine so if I got one would it still reset it ok

How many times would you use that tool? No idea if the Chinese ones on eBay work, but provided you have the fault code C249F read by Star then it may be possible to do a reset. One member recently had this done for £100.
As to whether you can reset without a warning I wouldn't know.

You can't reset the SBC counter only extend the service life. This service was available at one of the Bradford Indies just before Christmas for £45

Hi,
I bought one of these cheap SBC counter extenders a while back, cost me £24 off of Ebay and as yet have not used it and hope I never have to, a bit like using the airbags.
I thought at the time it was a reasonable investment should I get a C249F code and be able to extend the brake depressions myself rather than pay out £100 or so for a garage to do it. Before I bought it I did search the net and could find then, no one reporting they do not work. If I never use it, then it is no great loss.
Steve.
