SBC unit replacement

Dealer 30 miles away was trying it on.

MB Bromley had my car in for a recall job once. I asked them to look into the SBC and they also updated the software FOC and it improved the sound as well as extending the counter I understand.

They told me it was covered under a lifetime warranty. I had no warranty with MB but they said it didn't matter.

Shame the lifetime is the lifetime of a moth rather than anything of any significant benefit.

It would be good if it had a small counter on it so you could see what it is on.

Glad you got it sorted, when you say warranty, are you referring to the SBC unit or the software?

JohnEBoy, yes the dealer wouldn't budge even when I gave them the contact at the other dealer to call, so I just said fine I'll drive 30 miles further. The idea re: the counter is an excellent one! Seems an easy thing to but obviously not worth the cost given MB have now pulled the SBC system on most high volume sales cars.

I wonder everyone, if the software update just extends the counter threshold, what is the actual lifetime of the SBC unit and will there be a red warning light if the SBC system actual fails in the future due to too many brake depresses?!

I think 'SBC' was the warrantied item although that would include the software/firmware which runs on it I would have thought. They didn't charge me for the update anyway and my car was not subject to the SBC recall (the recall was something to do with the fuel tank).

Yes, as they aren't even interested in the safety of their customers - convenience is not going to be high on their agenda!

I think the update apparently makes the unit quieter and I think it did on mine a little.

300,000 is the updated counter after the update I believe.

I forget the warning but it is not obviously the SBC unit exceeding too many presses but something more generic which could mean the SBC unit has gone but might not.

There is of course a difference between the 300,000 being exceeded and the unit actually dying - which some on here have experienced.

Thanks JohnEBoy. Well all seems OK at the moment so the update has worked by the look of it. Thanks for your comments
