A 2 by 4 plank of wood hits windscreen, caught on tape!

I was actually taping two trucks doing a little 'cat and mouse' game and holding up traffic. (I always say I'll send it to the companies they work for, let them know how they are representing the company, but I never do. Can't help it - I'm in marketing so I always think about things like that)
The 2x4 was in the road, along with several others, but when the truck in front of me hit it, and then his trailer hit it, it just propelled it into me. I don't know why I didn't scream or cuss or cry, I guess just pure shock, I could barely form words to call 911. But I most definitely know how lucky I was. Damage was mostly the hood and windshield, again, very lucky.

Even know you know its coming, still makes you jump!

Wow. That took 1 second. For once it's a good job he didn't swerve to avoid it.

That's my worst nightmare - sometimes makes me wince driving past railings after seeing a 9-11 style program with a guy who hit one and the pole had gone straight through him.

ouch

I thought windscreens were tougher than that.

So did I, there is nothing you can do to avoid that. Could happen to any of us and be random, depending on seating position inside the car its either death or brown pants, or where you are in the lane....

Wow, thats crazy. Definitely thinking twice before getting behind something like that in the future.

I'm always go a bit funny when I see a truck hauling train wheels, or flat beds with scaffold poles, they never seem to use enough ratchet straps for my liking.

The other day I was sitting on the M2 behind a lorry doing 60 when he drove over something like the side of a shed, it flicked up behind his left rear wheel and I instictively swerved and successfully missed it. However, two things about it made me think. One was that my car coped brilliantly with a violent slalom maneuver at 60 mph and secondly that thank goodness that the van in the middle lane was 50ft behind me not next to me otherwise I have hit him!

What's ironic about the video is that the Guy was on his way to Home Depot to buy a piece of wood..

OK..maybe not.. ;)

That is scary. Not that this would help in that situation but I always make sure I pass vehicles I can't see passed ASAP. I just dont like being beside/behind them, you can almost say I have a phobia to it. Even when I was a child I used to be petrified when my dad would pass anything large too slowly, I always asked him to do it quickly because I feel like my heart rate goes up :D, very weird.

The Force was with you there my friend

Your worst nightmare, extremely lucky to survive it.

I followed a car many years ago with a sheet of 6ft x 4ft plywood on the roof. It looked insecure and as I watched the wind caught it and it came off the roof and floated towards my car. Fortunately it landed on the roof of my car and skidded off again. The only damage was the paint on my roof which I T-cutted out.
