"A study by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency backs up Tusker’s findings. It concluded that EVs are 20 times less likely to catch fire than petrol and diesel cars."

I must admit I consider myself really, really lucky, with all these vehicles apparently going up in smoke at the drop of a hat.
I've been driving for over 40 years, including a 14 year period where I averaged 70-80,000 miles a year and I've never had a vehicle that spontaneously combusted.
Although I had one that might have done if I hadn't caught a potential problem and had it fixed.
Ironically that was a Mercedes
More worryingly is they admit to have being exposed the the toxic fumes and smoke from this fire , I hope they didn't stick around too long sucking that stuff in.
The garage has taken a beating too , My guess is if the doors were uPVC instead of steel this might have ended even worse for this family.
They did say 20 times more likely for ICE, but they also stated "Acknowledging that some fires are inevitable – not least due to arson, which is the cause of around 65% of car fires each year "
Doubt very much that many EV's are deliberately set on fire, unlike older ICE vehicles. So, there's always lies, damned lies and statistics to hide the real truth.
