I used the wet & dry method by hand and worked well for me.

Just in case anyone is interested, I have done my CLK and my sister's C Class Coupe recently with some 1200 wet and dry and then buffed them with a rag wheel and and some Farecla G3 compound. The wheel kit was purchased from Tool Station for £4.99
Toolstation > Power Tool Accessories > Buffing & Polishing > Polishing Set

I spent around an hour on each car to achieve this.

600, 1200, 2000 grit sanding.

After polishing

Or if needed you can get new OEM replacement lenses for about £50 ish a side
