lets roll in all our perfectly good 5 year old cars (we are talking 04 plates here!), probably with low-ish mileage as they will have to be smaller chepaer cars to make the value around or below 2k, scrap them and get the buyer into debt to drive around in a car they cant really afford that is probably just as reliable as the 5 year old car they have just scrapped.
The scrappage deals are quite interesting - if you're a cynic.
The Fiat offers on the Grand Punto don't seem much better after scrappage than I can recall a neighbour being offered before the crunch.
It's somewhat annoying to see a pretty basic 1.2 Clio listed at £9995 (yikes) and then 'discounted' down to £7495 for non-scrappage and £6495 with scrappage. Funny that. Have a colleague who bought a 1.2 Clio 15 months ago at .... around £6500.
There are also some subtle differences in the models being offered for scrappage deals. I saw one where the car doesn't include A/C. But the cars offered new with delivery miles at the same price without scrappage by Motorpoint do have A/C.
So they are now offering you £2000 to scrap a 5 year old car...yea right...like I couldn't walk in to their showroom with cash and get £2000 discount - so where's the scrapage allowance..nothing more than marketing hype....IMHO of course.
Also my wife's 7 year old car is worth more than £2000.....just...
