Hi all.washing the car the other day I noticed a scratch in the rear drivers side door glass.its about 3cm long and can feel it with my nail.any suggestions on fixing ? I have read about clear nail varnish but don't know how chemicals will react with tinted glass . Is factory tinted glass made tinted or is it a sheet like aftermarket ? Thanks in advance.

It might be possible to polish it out, but the compounds used are quite specialised and the process slow and laborious. It will also leave distortion in the glass, although that won't be a big issue on a rear door glass.

Factory glass is made tinted. It doesn't rely on an additional film.

If you can feel it with a fingernail you're going to struggle polishing it out with cerium oxide to be honest.

Either leave it or replace the glass.

Hi. Thanks for the replies. Good to know it's made tinted. Do you think clear nail varnish or the windscreen resins on eBay would help disguise the scratch?

Unlikely and would probably leave more of a mess to be honest. The windscreen resin is only really good for cracks

Hi probably better just to leave it .unless you replace it. Remember if you use resins it can make the glass get hot .

Why don't you nip into your local Autoglass Centre and ask if a Resin Repair is possible? It shouldn't be too expensive!

Other Glass Repair Firms are available on request! ;)
