I have a scratch on the display of my Audio 20. Facelift C Class coupe.

Any suggestions?

For what they cost used on ebay £50 ish, would this be a better or only option?

Sounds crazy but can the the screen it self not be replaced ?

The pic is a used one off ebay - mine has a 2" scratch on the dispaly.

Is there an easy way to remove a scratch from the transparent plastic dispaly....or..... is total replacement the only cure?

Perspex or Brasso work well on plastics, it does depend on the depth of the scratch, ideally it is better to remove the scratch with 1200 wet and dry (OK dry if on the car) first, this is so that you do not make a trough by polishing a small area.

Taking the part off the unit make it easier I have polished many of these things over the years, T cut also works

Thx for the advice......

This is a definate scratch as opposed to a scuff.......i did wonder if i might wear a trough in the face of the plastic because of the depth of scratch.

So - if i lightly rub 2000 wet and dry in a circular motion over the scratch, then polish with brasso or T-cut, would that do the trick?

Do rub along the scratch an not across it, not circular just go with the scratch, if the panel was taken of it can be done using a sanding block and easier to do, shame that you cant just turn it around

Thanks Malcolm....will give it a go whilst in the car.

I sorted mine out with Meguiars Plast-X - bought it to use on my headlamps but it worked well on my radio too!

Whatever you use to eradicate the scratch, whether its fine wetndry or jif of even t cut, give it a final buff with jewellers rouge. It will bring the plastic back its old shiny appearance and take out the tiny hairline scratches that the other methods will leave behind.

must be a common thing , i had a scratch on my 2005 W203 too. Ive got no idea how i did it either :S

Most common causes of scratches on plastic surfaces in cars are rings (jewellery), keys and coins. Other likely causes are children and pets. And when I say children, that includes teenagers.

Just looked in my boot...... no scratches there.... so it goes to prove that is the best place for the kids to travel...
