I'm looking for advice. On the test drive of my E350 cab I obviously wanted to test the hood functioned as it should so operated said hood and all the windows. I was unaware that the car had been sat a little while and what must have been grit or sand or something similar had built up on the window rubbers. Anyway I'm sure you can guess the rest. I know have lovely scratches the full height of the front windows. Does anyone now if all or some of these can be polished out, if so by whom?

There are glass specialists who will polish minor scratches out. Google is your friend, for example: Glass Doctors

Might be worth a polish with Brasso first to see if you can get them out yourself.

Wouldn't it just be cheaper to have the window replaced?

Thanks Phil. Do you know if they have to remove the glass?
I've never used them, but there's a note on their website that says they can't deal with scratches closer than 3 inches from the window surround, so I'd guess if you have scratches full height that the windows would have to be removed. Personally, I'd make some enquiries as to the price of replacement glass as by the time you've removed, polished and replaced what you have it's going to get quite expensive.

Try to polish it out yourself first. I scratched a screen with a metal watch strap and it polished out. I'm just sorry I cannot remember what polish I used but @sturgeon above suggests Brasso. A cheap solution if it works.

I’m sure Amazon sell glass buffing kits that you attach to a drill. Not sure how well they work though...

Jewllers Rouge is claimed for removing scratches on glass .

We have the same from no doubt a similar circumstance. I'll have a go with the machine polisher and see what results I get. Its cerium oxide I believe that works best.

Never tried it, but i am told cheap tooth paste will remove scratches to glass, i am told that the cheap stuff is more course !!!!!
Worth a try i would think, could not make it worse.

It's normally 'whitening' toothpaste that is the more course.

Yup, Jewellers Rouge is what you need with an electric polishing wheel. Used to do it all the time on glass units on double glazed windows at my dads place all the time.

Plenty of water to stop it overheating and take your time. We used to get scratches out up-to 1mm deep! Surface shallower scratches are pretty easy.

On my w211 i had the same issue with sratched glass on the drivers window, I didnt want it showing when tinting it so i ended up buying a new window from MB, it wasnt that expensive, circa £50 and i fitted it myself.
