SD Card issues with Comand Online on GLA 220d

I can't honestly say I'm surprised. Whenever I got an update for my Becker Map Pilot it was always at least a year old despite the download date being current. I'm not sure who does the Comand navigation for MB but it has a lot of similarities to the Becker. Anyone know if it is them?

Sounds like laziness on the dealers part. They can easily get the discs.

they told me they ordered them and that they're still waiting to get them. They said they don't know exactly when.

What surprised me/****** me off is the fact that they were aware that the car was coming for an upgrade only to find out about it 4 hours later that the upgrade is not there with them.

What sort of professionalism is this?

After sales service and information about systems and specs of a car is almost impossible to be honest.

I will keep you posted as to when the dealer will ring me for upgrading the maps.

I just had a call from the dealer I went to telling me that that their next update is coming next year in April.
I realised at the time he meant when my next service is due.

I categorically told him that is not true and then he put me through to his manager who insisted that sat nav updates are only done for free in the first 3 years during the annual service and not any other time.

I mentioned that the current update is the 2016-2017 update and I'm on 2015-2016. also I said I had unmapped roads during recent trips and he blamed it on 'frequency' (completely clueless!)

He did say the current update is 2017 and he did not offer for me to come to have it done.

Is this true?

Is there somewhere online on an official Mercedes website where it says I could take the car at any time for its maps to be upgraded, so that I can prove my case?

This was at Temple Fortune in Finchley, North London.

Any advice on what I should do? Should I goshould to the dealer I bought who is only 3 miles further and try and do it there?

If the 2016-2017 update was available on the 10th of May then I would be able to claim this on the basis that it wasn't done during service. 10th of May is when the car had its annual service.

Easiest: Call another dealer.
Most Rewarding: Call Mercedes Customer Service 08081 565 635 or 0333 220 6603

Sadly both the map PIN codes, and the media (USB stick) are expensive. (edit; map pin codes are free for 3 years from 1st registration, they are computer generated so 1 day late and they become expensive)

As you have discovered they are bad at doing map updates. The car sits blocking a bay (and a power supply) whilst the update happens and they get paid little. Now with the USB at least it reasonably quick. With the older DVD based updates it takes hours.

I phoned Customer Services and they'll investigate and come back to me within 1 to 5 working days. The most rewarding for me is to go back to Temple Fortune and have it done there to their face to be honest.

That dealer is my ideal location because it's quite near me.

Customer Services just now told me that 'things vary from dealer to dealer'. That's surprising in my opinion.

i just got off the phone with customer services who confirmed that there is a newer update but they insisted that it is done from service to service.

She was not willing to help any further or find out when the update was made available. I could use then as tool if it wasn't done in May 2017 during service.

Any suggestions as to what I should do?

I don't want to wait another 9 months to get the the newer version when I know it obviously exists!

Should I just book & try with another dealer ?

Update: I did have the maps updated (2016-2017) and I actually got them updated again (2017-2018) on Thursday.

It's amazing how hesitant they are to perform a map update. I just dont understand why though, if it's a mandate from the manufacturer.

They should honour it without issues.

On a separate note, is there a software upgrade out there that would enable Android Auto?

I have Carplay, but what I want is Android Auto to use Google Maps.

Apple maps suck and I'm not too impressed sometimes with TomTom on the car. E.g if there's a little bit of traffic, Google Maps will not divert you, unless it's a serious issue. TomTom on the other hand will divert almost immediately with a tiniest bit of traffic. I'm not sure what type of route setting Google Map uses, but I've got Dynamic on my sat nav on the merc. Is there a setting that imitates Google Maps at best?

Any thoughts out there?

I have thought of jailbreaking my iphone to use Google Maps. Has anyone done that?

Good to hear you have manged to sort this out.
My cls is 4 years old, but annoyingly map update was done only on 1st service, so I'm on 2014 maps
I have no choice if want maps update to go and pay for it (£99 offer now), but would like to wait until the newest version will be available.
From what you are saying.. Is it just been realised like 2017-2018? Is there new version every year /half year?
Thx

I'm not sure how often they come out.

My service was done in May and they didn't perform a map update but the car wasn't mine then and I still didn't know much about Comand/Maps at the time. I think you need to be explicit with them at the time of service that you want all software updates and map updates done. Otherwise they will be lazy and wont do them.

When I went last week for it, I went for something else (one of the ISO hooks for baby chairs was broken since I have had the car) but I insisted that I want my maps to be updated too. I had my laptop with my spec sheet that clearly says map updates for 3 years free of charge. And I showed that to the service advisor. It does not state anywhere that this should be done from service to service. So after a 5 minute discussion of me being firm it was completed without any issues.

I don't know much about what changes in each update but I would only guess it's mostly roads and speed limit changed. In all honesty, I wouldn't care less about the sat nav if I could use Google Maps with Android Auto. I have Carplay and Apple Maps suck. I think there's a way to get Android Auto if you already have CarPlay so that's something I'm looking into As there's nothing as good as Google Maps or Waze. Google bought Waze.

Alternatively you could Jailbreak your iPhone and install an app from Cydia that allows any app to be used in Carplay another option I'm exploring. So that means Google Maps with CarPlay.

Having read this post and a few others i have now managed to load the POI onto my COMAND system in our new GLC 250d AMG Line PP.
So thank you all.

David.

Hi,

I just bought a GLA 220D and it sounds like we have the same system. Mine was around April 2016 build according to my data card and registered on May 2016.

I have CarPlay but no Android Auto. I have the car going in to Temple Fortune next week and have asked them to check it out as I think they just need to install SA Code 17u (might be wrong) and it should automatically have Android Auto.

My car has the SmartPhone integration package but I have an Android phone.

I just wanted to know if you managed to get an update? or if you found another way to get Android Auto on the car?

Thanks,
