There are common faults. Are both not working? If so, maybe start with the controller unit under the rear seat. They can suffer from water ingress. If it's just one that's failed it may be stripped gears in the presenter mechanism or possibly the micro switches on the arm. These can be checked by removing the side trim panel in the rear of the car.

Id start by removing fuse , cleaning the metal bits and re-inserting in case contacts have become dirty (as both stopped, I think its one fuse)

Well, I'm not quite sure if both of them had stopped at the same time as I bought the car like that, but the question is if there is some thing wrong with gears or other parts are they repairable ???? Or you have to replace the whole thing???
    Thanks
    Peter

Hi, Is yours the cabrio? If so, they have different presenters to the coupes. The fact that both are not working would make me start diagnosis of the common parts (like the controller). It is possible to make repairs to the mechanisms. The driving force is the cost of replacement with new presenters as MB don't offer spares.
I seem to remember that once I got to the controller under the rear seat it was obvious when opened that it was scrap and a replacement was part of getting both presenters fully working again. On that note, you could well find that there is more than one issue to cure!

    I have just remembered...
It is not unheard of for owners to intentionally
disconnect the system when the gears start grinding.
