Hello All,
Just added to my growing collection, an 86 SEC 500 in need of a lot of tlc...
Mechanically excellent with a lot spent over the last few years by the previous owner.
Bodywork is very solid, but needs a good wash to get rid of 2 years of mould and the paintwork needs freshening up

I know the floors are sound - it was holding almost a bucketful of water on the passenger side alone... Yes my biggest problem seems to be the door and window seals have all perished. This has in turn lead to the interior really suffering - especially the wood trim and head lining.

Where do people go for spares on these models, especially in the South East? Otherwise, any recommendation for online companies - ideally with an online parts catalogue. I also need to get my hands on a service manual - I don't even know what oil goes in this car, let alone timing, plug gaps, etc.

Any advice gratefully received!

Have not used them personally but I've heard others using a place called 'the SEC shop', who I think are in Kent.

You need to check for rust very carefully all over - there's quite a few places where the SEC 126s can rust, best to spot them early if you're starting to restore it. Have you looked under the rear parcel shelf etc?

Oh - and welcome to the forum, didn't realise it was your first post :)

Thanks for the prompt welcome!!
Had found the SEC-Shop while Googling - think I need to pay them a visit. Be good to know if anyone else has used them.
Re Parcel Shelf - is this meant to be a one piece unit? Looks like someone has welded in a new section. Full width with large circular holes on the rear edge (looking up from below). And it's rusty... Is this something that can be repaired or is it terminal. Didn't look too serious to my untrained eye... I just assumed the boot seals were leaking.

I'm no expert on 126s but from what I gather it's the rear screen seals that let the water in - normally you have to take the glass out and weld in a repair panel for the parcel shelf, before refitting the screen (or a new one?) with new seals.

I can bet that the SEC shop (and other decent specialists :)), will know exactly of this fault, seems to affect most 126s over the years.

Chas is a very pleasant chap who knows his stuff. I always used him when I owned a 560 SEC. Highly recommend him.

Thanks for the friendly welcome and advice guys.
I'll have to make a point of getting over to SEC shop to have a chat.

Mercland,
I need plenty...!! Case of balancing the work with the available funds...
I need to get the car watertight first, and need to do the door/window/boot rubbers first I think - plus sort the leaky rear screen and sunroof.
Out of interest, can you PM me with an idea of costs for all wood trim, replacement rear screen, and if you have a good black leather set, a pair of front seats.(Or can you offer seat refurbishment?).

Thanks Roger

Hmmm... Skip the PM bit - don't think I'm allowed to receive these yet due to my low post count...
