Second Hand Key Fob Help Needed

Can anyone tell me, is it possible to have a 3 button key reprogrammed for a different car?

I have been looking at how cheaply they sell on eBay and need a new fob.

Are they hard coded at the factory or can a dealer set it up for your car using Star diagnose?

Stick to the MB product if I were you. I ordered 2 replacement key remotes thro the mb parts system and they both needed programmed by my local dealer to work.
