Segway user fined for pavement use

Can someone please explain how they cost £5000!

His plea should have been not guilty by reason of insanity if he is unemployed and has just splashed out £5K for two wheels and an electric motor

And had a nice holiday in Florida. I'm in the wrong job. I should become an unemployed factory worker by the look of it.

Reading the report Jimi Heselden was a very generous man who gave £millions to help those less fortunate than himself. His loss however caused is hardly the subject of merriment.

I guess there is an element of black humour in the irony, but I do agree, it's not a tasteful subject to joke about.

Good to know that he shared his good fortune.

RIP

Oh dear.

It does say in the article that they are banned on British roads, but legal on private land.

But no mention of foot paths.

They are used by some of the big retail parks who stick "security" muppets on who then tool about at a fair speed but to little good effect. Self and Mrs S. nearly got flattened out by one whilst at Gun Wharf in Portsmouth.

Sadly it appears there is no "brain boost" function on them.

They use them on the beaches in north-eastern Italy to round up the Somalian beach-sellers.

It's high time though the CPS advised going after the masses - the army of cyclists who own both the road and the pavement, riding like tw*ts :(

As far as I'm aware, it's never been legal to use Segways on public roads, cycle lanes or pavements in the UK. This case was an attempt to challenge the law by setting a precedent. Former MP Lembit Opik has been trying unsuccessfully to get the law changed for years now. BBC NEWS | Politics | Opik and peers in Segway protest

It's not fair to compare these contraptions to mobility scooters, which are generally only used by people who would otherwise be unable to get about. Also, mobility scooters tend to be limited to walking pace, whereas Segways can top 12mph. They have no place on the pavement, nor would I want to see them sharing my roadspace.

I still see plenty of chavscum riding minimotos on pavements. Cops do try to stop them but they seem to get away with it. I think confiscation should be the way forward. Or execution.

This could only ever happen in Barnsley, I'm amazed someone didn't shoot at it as an alien object :D

I saw this on the evening news.

I read the first couple of posts, and was just about to say ...
"Of course .. You have to remember that this was in Barnsley"
Great minds think alike !!

This is why the rest of the western world see the uk as behind the times and needing a giant kick up the farse.
