Hi i have a 2006 cls 320cdi (obv auto)

on start up its fine selecting reverse

once the lever down to D or N it wont move back into R (and therefore P), just refuses to go up and obv I dont want to use excessive force. However once in a blue moon it works fine! engine temp has no bearing on weather it decides to work or not. just a nightmare as i was getting into a restoration project and this happens!

The only way i can get it to reverse is it turn the engine off, move the shifter into P and then start the car and select reverse

I have changed the brake switch as suggested in a previous post but still have the issue

Does anyone have any sugesstions as to what the problem could be

Thanks

You probably want to get it on star otherwise random changing parts could get expensive.

Hi Ive not done anything with it yet just putting up with it but will get sorted eventally a local MB specialist will put it on a star for £50. if you find the solution let me know. Thanks

Gonna read mine with my reader see what it reveals.

My brake light works fine but will swap the switch anyway as I have one lying about.
I've found if my foot is on the brake I cant select reverse.
If I move to N and release the brake I can select reverse without having to stop the engine, its a strange one.

Ill give that a go see if mines the same

Possible solution here.
I'm gonna give it a go.

Hi Thanks for the information this sounds expensive is it something that is plug and play or does it need coding and setting up ?
where abouts is this located on the vehicle ?

thanks
Jon

Its the plastic housing that the gear lever goes into
The module is inside this

I'm going to attempt to inspect/clean/resolder mine before looking at replacing it
Don't think it needs coding

hi let me know how you get on. how much did you pay for your code reader ? are these the only code readers that work on mercedes ?
i looked at some used modules on ebay and some of them say may need coding to your vehicle.
a used module is about £90 so i hate to think how much a new one is.
good luck with stripping it down and inspecting it.

ive just ried the same thing as you and have the same

Well the Icarsoft is the best around for the normal motorist to buy at about£130 at £40 a time to get your car scanned it soon pays for itself, make sure you buy from a official seller ther are clones about.

Totally agree
I've used iCarsoft readers for a couple of cars but with the Merc I opted for the CR Pro all in one @£250ish to save me spending £100+ on one for each car
Works the same and just as well as the dedicated make versions.
Bought mine from LJM authorised resellers

I don't think I'm likely to try it now.
Had a big bump and 99% sure its gonna get written off.
Will report if and when I do try the repair.
But if it fails then yes, that part will fix it.

Oh no hope you are OK. Thanks for the update. Mines gone in to have the bumper fixed I didn't know the reverse sensor (one on the corner) wasn't working doh and cracked the bumper

Did you sort out the reverse issue?
