Who's sold their C63 and what have they moved on to? Did they regret it?

I've considered selling my C63 Saloon but have no idea what I'd get next.. GTR, 991 Carrera S, F80 M3, mapped E63 5.5BT.. these cars are within my price range but I'm in 2 minds!

AMG GTS, 991 Turbo S, C63S coupe are all cars I'd like but are well over double the money and make the 204 63 seem like a bargain..

Cars running the usual EC map, Quaife, secondary cat deletes and 507 wheels. Thinking of adding some carbon down the line, starting with rear lip spoiler and poss wing mirrors.. where's the best place to get good quality items in genuine CF?

I'd maybe hold off on the GTR run...

I sold my GTR to get the E63 and that is a far superior car in many ways.

The way it drives, its power delivery and overall comfort/useablity.
If you love track and spend your days there, buy the GTR if your like every other normal person and you do track days now and then save yourself the headache and avoid the GTR.

I mean its all personal opinion i had a 2010 GTR with nearly 700bhp and barring the launches the Merc would ruin it all through the rev range, the GTR's are limited to 500ib/ft of torque also unless you have some deep pockets for a gearbox build.
And im talking up to nearly £10,000 to build a box capable of taking the torque the E63 makes.
Comfort is also lacking, seats are crap, sound system is crap, road noise is loud.
I ended up spending money on sound deadening and audio upgrades (R35 Audio) and then i realised i was throwing money at a car to make it more useable and decided at that point it was the wrong car for me.
And the scene tax on parts is just enough to make you want to crawl into a corner.
£1500 for a set of OEM Potenza tyres, £250 for a minor 6 month service (early models) and upwards of nearly £1000 if you need the gearbox oil/diff doing etc.
I did all mine myself to keep costs low but for example the fluid for the GTR was £220 for 10 litres Pentazoin FFL Race, the merc was £115 and that came with 8 litres of fluid, pan gasket, new filter, new magnets and new bolts... to replace just the one paper filter on the GTR your looking at £130

Dont get me wrong it was an amazing car but it just wasnt a drivers car, too safe
I mean im glad i owned one and i can say i had a GTR but honestly i had it 3 months and decided it just was not the car i'd hoped for.
And if im honest i think its so far shy of the old R32 GTR that i was probably comparing the two and it just doesnt have the character of the true godzilla.
Even the noise is dissapointing (personal opinion) but to me a well sort RB26 sounds far nicer than the VR38 in the GTR.

Go down the Porsche route or move up to a E63 i certainly love mine!

I recently moved on to an Alfa Giulia QF. I absolutely love it. The C63 I had (had actually) was fantastic and very quick but progress keeps progressing.

You can't knock a car that will do 40+mpg on the motorway, is more comfortable and quieter, yet is faster than my C63 was when mapped with an exhaust. People may slate the Alfa history, but you've got to try a QF to see why it's the car of the moment.

Good move! Can't beat new. Best of luck with it chap.

We need info and photos of this car. I saw a non QF park outside my house the other day. Possible the best looking car I've seen in a long time.

Really depends on the use and personal driving style and desires I think.

I'm fortunate enough to have a C63 and GTR R35 and can safely say I love them both in their own way.
The C63 is a monster, it's a bit tail happy and is a lot of fun while giving comfort. It also gives an immense noise.

Although saying that, the GTR... wow, yes it's a bit rough around the edges but I don't agree with people who say it's boring or clunky. It's thorough and does what it says, it goes extremely fast, whether around bends or in straight lines. Those who don't feel a connection or that it's not a drivers car, really don't drive it how it's supposed to be driven in my opinion. As for noise, I have downpipes with a titanium exhaust and most people have said it sounds like a race car.

Costs... Servicing is £1000 a year on average from a specialist Indy, and all nowadays only get yearly service depending on mileage. Which is not unreasonable given the performance and won't be too different from the porker.
Tyres are £1k for all 4 corners, same as my AMG set.
Discs and pads all in... £2.5k, for AMG it was £1.5k - both from indies. Most GTRs will have K&N air filters which don't need replacing and have a lifetime warranty.

Both cars are too fast for the road and great in their own way. Best is to test drive one and see if it's for you. I wouldn't recommend the GTR as a daily, I use it for the weekends and do the more normal run around in the C63.
If you wanted an all rounder then the Porsche is worth looking in to as this combines comfort with performance and handling.
Just my two cents.

Spec: Competizione Red, standard seats with red stitch, black dash panels, carbon steering wheel, 19" dark teledial wheels, yellow callipers.

Performance wise, as stated above is fractionally better stock than my PPP C63 was when tuned. The AMG ran a best 100-200kph of 8.09s / 60-130 9.65s using vbox and approved correction software. It was on most days an 8.2 and 9.7/8 car. The Alfa was already doing 8.1 and 9.6s figures with hardly any miles and wet roads so was pleased to see the Quad break into the 7s the other day when it ran a 7.95 and 9.5. That's pretty rapid for a stock, low mile car.

The car itself is epic. The driver position, steering wheel, interior and sense of occasion is as you'd wish. The gearbox is the same 8 speed ZF item that BMW use and the infotainment system is also very BMW. The gearbox runs similar software to the Ferrari 599 and also has some cool touches from the 599XX. You can switch from drive to neutral and back or reverse to drive or neutral by pulling the paddles. When holding the downshift into corners and roundabouts it will drop gears like the 599 does too.

Fuel economy wasn't a reason for buying the Alfa, but it is worth mentioning. The drive to and from Millbrook Proving Ground on Saturday for the QF customer driving event shown a very accurate 36mpg. The car used 30.5 litres of momentum over the 242 mile journey. I have seen north of 40mpg on a 70mph cruise but over the 1250 miles I've had it so far it's averaging 25mpg with all the fun I'm having.

Downsides:

Traction control is a bit invasive in Dynamic mode when launching. Hopefully they can fix this with software updates. In Race mode it is not short of grip so I can only assume it's something that needs adjusting. The car has no Race Start or Launch Control so pulling away at speed is a skill to be mastered. It's running 11.8s quarter miles at 122mph out of the box though so It's still no slouch.

Only 4 seats. UK only has a 4 seat option. Not sure why.

It is heavier than they say it is. Alfa are adamant that the QF is 1595kg with no options. So far every car tested has been 1700kg or over, mine included. It could be that the Euro car spec is lighter due to less safety kit. It's still 175kg lighter than the C63 mind ;)

Anyway, pics:

Also had a detail and PPF fitted:

I sold my W204 C63, and went to a W212 E63.
No regrets whatsoever - far superior car in all departments in my limited experience, as I've only had it for a few weeks.

that is one very sleek and sexy looking motor!
I can only dream......

Also made the move from a PP W204 63 to an E63s BT 5.5. Had it 4 days now :-)

So far I'm really impressed. Cabin is far superior, plusher yet retains its sporty purpose. The noise is great, but different to the tone of the 6.2l V8... more a deeper rumble of the mother of all thunderstorms with some turbo spooling whistles. ****ing cool!

Traction has been an issue due to the torque and the colder weather this week... but nothing unusual with 585+ BHP :-)

Only 4 seats. UK only has a 4 seat option. Not sure why.

What a beautiful car. I'm happy with my old c63 at the moment but this is a real future alternative for me but I didn't know it's 4 seater only.

.

I really dont agree, you cannot assume that because i've said its boring that i dont drive it hard.
I drive everything very hard indeed, i track a lot and i've taken various things round track been doing it a good few years now.
My RS6, the GTR, the R32 GTR, Accords, Civics, BMW's etc etc (not the Merc yet) and i have a purpose built Alfa Romeo 155R that is used as a track car/sprint soon to be Alfa champ car which is just undergoing a 3.2 V6 swap from a 147 GTA amongst other things.
So i understand driving quickly.

The best way i can describe the feeling of upmost satisfaction is when you drive a car hard and then after you have done that you get out and your hands are shaking and your heart is pumping, that is how you know the car is good.. like the first time you did your first track day and came off all shaky/sweaty thinking to yourself "why the hell have i not done that before now"
i NEVER got that with the GTR, i always knew no matter what i was safe, you can take bends at silly speeds with no drama barring a hint of understeer and it feels very planted at nearly 200mph all of which is great and it does it really well.
But it is fundamentally soulless, it doesnt feel special inside (2017 changed interior made things a lot better, but early cars really do feel fairly un-gtr inside) and as much as i respected it and enjoyed driving it i wasnt at one with the car, i was always kept away from the heart of the beast, i cant finger point exactly why but no matter how fast/how much work i did on the car it never really got under my skin, i never looked back and said to myself "god i love that car"
I also had a full 4" SVM exhaust with 90mm Y pipe, i really didnt rate the noise versus the old song of the RB26 but each to there own,
V's are nice but i dont know, the VR38 reminded me too much of a 350z and thats not a bad thing, i just wasnt sold on the noise of the GTR.
It was great for pre-limiter changes and 4ft flames though ;) haha!

But seriously, from a pure drivers angle it doesnt have the passion that you get in a older more mechanical car, i get that feeling in the E63, which really blew me away as i bought the thing expecting it to be as numb and blunt as the RS6 was, but its just so far from that it really does have a cracking soul to it, you feel like the car is egging you on to keep your foot in, you get a real feel of connection and fear when its lagging its ar$e sideways and your pulling quick movements on the wheel to keep all those ponies down.
It really is a thrill to drive, i know it keeps me safe too but for some reason you have the sense of fear that it might just all go wrong!
The GTR put the power down i went fast and it would have blistered the AMG round a track, but i gurantee i'd come off with a bigger smile on my face going out in the Merc than i ever had in the GTR.

I mean everyone has an opinion and everyone thinks and feels differently without that we have no diversity.
So im glad you enjoy your GTR i just wish i'd enjoyed mine as much as i did my R32 and now the E63

Side note that Alfa QF is stunning i was very tempted with one before getting the E63 however the tuning options are slim and i was nervous diving in fresh handed.
