Evening all, really looking for some constructive ideas and pricing to my current S Class I have listed on Autotrader.. any comments welcome. The ad was a bit of a rush job so looking to improve be it pics or description - do photos of recent receipts for ££££'s help? Only been up 1 week 675 views though!

I sold my 53 plate W220 in about 2009 for £4.5k

Well I would like to sell, I have sold countless cars privately over the last few years in particular.

It comes down I guess to time management something I don't get alot of with baby no3 on the way and work 6 days..

I'm honest in my adverts I just don't know if the market place has changed that dramatically in the last year.

Obviously selling a AMG car may be easier than selling a nearly 14 year old diesel S Class.

Auto trader doesn't give you the option to waffle 1500 characters- the forum does and has some fantastic members. I'm purely reaching out for some guidance and help.

It is a clearly well looked after car, But i think the advert does come over a little rushed, On here anyway,

Also there is this one, FBSH and 46k less

Saved Adverts

At 5k it's very near the price of a w221 with similar mileage. I'm not saying it's not worth it, and im sure if someone actually viewed it they may be prepared to pay the price your after.... Trouble is getting the buyer to see it 1st before viewing newer or less mileage vehicle's.

Yes, I guess it's down to preferences I do have a better spec than that car. 46k in diesel isn't alot. I know all the big money jobs on this car have been done and beyond!

I think the W221 in and around the price point may see my car over looked.. I had viewed 221s before buying this 6k and 7k Mark and they would easily from my non trained eye need a good few thousand in reserve.

I guess it's what's some one is prepared to pay for a well sorted 220 that needs nothing.

I do have a habit of buying cars spending stupid amounts of money on them so they are the best they can be!

I wouldn't sell, it's purely circumstances plus the car not getting used.

I'm not looking to sell and buy a 221 for a few k more that would end up sat in the drive.

I do have use of 2 other cars.

Thanks for your feedback Gav, I'm going to have to rehash the ad may be simplify just more bullet point style as apposed to the current.

Ad looks fine to me, just a bit too expensive.

As good as yours does look, a cursory glance on AT shows exactly the same as yours, from a dealer, with 59k miles for the same price.

There’s also another one, on the same year as yours, but with 91k miles, for £2700.

Going off those two examples, if the car was mine, I’d put it up for sale for £2950 and hope to achieve north of £2500.

Yours does look very well cared for but I’m afraid that care isn’t always able to be reflected in a cars value - sometimes listing how expensive a car has been to run and repair will actually put people off; you’re effectively reminding them that if this car goes wrong it’ll not be cheap to fix.

I can't see the advert with pictures, price, spec, etc
.

Thanks Lee, I look at tyre brands also its a good indicator on what sort of budget a car has been run on - general condition that 59k example I would bet isn't in as good condition.. that aside I have to be realistic with what my car is worth.

Again the 91k perlite Metallic gray up 2700 sounds good on paper like when I bought mine.. It still through a couple of grand on immediate repairs after buying.

Full MB history doesn't mean alot unless of course it's a newer car. I find specialists look after the older cars alot better.

Most buying a used S Class must know they aren't cheap cars to fix - hence me high lighting the big expensive jobs have been done. It's a good car for someone. I know I won't get nothing like back what I sunk into the car. Which is the the gauntlet you run when you spend like that then sell relatively quickly... I guess the question for me is do i want to belgrano'd !

If I were you I’d just keep the car.

Honestly pal, I agree with everything you’re saying - it’s just the general populace don’t care!

I know numerous people who buy a car and when I ask them “does it have service history” they just shrug their shoulders and say “I don’t know?” - they simply look for the car they want and start at the cheapest.

The other thing to keep in mind is something mentioned earlier; you’re in W221 money and buyers will, nine times out of ten, go for the newest model over the older one.

Unless you’re really really lucky I don’t see how you’re going to achieve over £3k (at best) so you might be as well keeping it.

Mentioning all you’ve done during your ownership makes sense here on forum where readers understand it, but for Joe public all that looks like a very expensive horror story. If I were you I would take out all that service details and how much you’ve spent on it. FSH is suficient. The same applies to photos. All they see is some corner of an engine bay, one of the pillars and a part of a black circle and have no idea why they are forced to look at it.
Price wise, can’t say much about it but by AT you are 20miles away from me so close to London. With all this ulez changes my guess is your buyers are not going to be local.
Try also carandclassic or petrolheads.
BTW it looks stunning and the color combo is perfect.

I'm a bit confused. Your comment above says 46k mls which sounds really nice and low, justifying a higher than market price; but then I look at the linked advert, see a beautiful looking car but it's done 146k mls - so which is it please? That 100K makes all the difference to the market value of the vehicle.

Think the OP was responding to a comment about a car that had done 46k less than his

So mine must be worth £300? :)

Thinking about it I must have sold it in around 2011, not sure if that makes yours worth £500 or £200? :D
