Or if it's a Jazz when the gearbox fails, writing off otherswise low mileage and well maintained cars.
Did you have or know of a duff one then?
We had one from new in 2004 for 8 years and it was faultless.

One of the reasons people buy from dealers is because there is no warranty when buying privately.
Dealers warranty is the subject for another time.
Once you have the money and they have the keys then your responsibility ends. The onus is on them to find any issues before they hand over the cash.
That is not entirely true.
If you sell a vehicle that is unroadworthy without notifying the buyer of such fault and it is not obvious then you could be legally liable for a claim of damages etc against you.

Agreed but the OP is not trying to knowingly sell an un-roadworthy car he just wants to make sure that there is no comeback if the buyer finds something doesn't work properly.[/QUOTE
I did not suggest they were, I was just clarifying the fact that there can, in certain circumstances be a claim against a private seller.

My Mom & Dad have matching his and hers Honda Jazz, one silver, and one, err, brown!
My Mom & Dad bbuy them at about 12 months old and run them forever. The silver one is a 2006 55 and had the gearbox rebuilt at around 4/5 years old and 25,000 miles.
Honda weren't interested in helping. They got it rebuilt by a transmission specialist, and to show Honda what they thought of them, they bought another one! That'll show em
In fact the they've had a surprising amount of recalls and warranty work. The two things which stand out on the silver 2006 55 car was rusty tailgate and faulty window mechanisms. For their faults my Mom & Dad both live their Jazzes.
My Mom & Dad's was a manual too, so as straight forward as a gearbox can be. It's not that my Dad's a bad driver either, he was an advanced driver in the Police, so he can't be a bad driver. That is the same shape as our's was.
I think we had a couple of recalls in the 8 years.
It was a great little car - we fitted a full size door in one once.
That's interesting though
Sounds like they are no better than Nissan.
I've come to the conclusion that CVTs are a crock of and I will be avoiding in future!
So, which modern unreliable-gearbox direction to go in next...
Hmmm fishing for a discount? Thanks Lennox! Mind you, no one would believe the next chapter. About an hour or so later, I got a call from the purchaser. He asked "have you ever had trouble with the steering"? I was happy to say, very truthfully, "no". He had gone to his bank to do a transfer and the power steering is gone. All the fluid on the ground. Not a mark on my drive. Legally, I am covered. Morally, I'm not sure how I feel. I think I'll contact my usual mechanic and say that if the car is brought there for repair, I will contribute. I do very much trust this garage, which has been looking after my Honda, Merc and Vespa for ten years plus. I cannot believe this.
The purchasers currently drive a Motability car, but after a PIP assessment, are losing it-----------???Hmmm fishing for a discount?
