- 2002 S210 Avantgarde 320CDi in silver. Black leather interior
Due to imminent arrival of new company car I rather reluctantly need to sell my S210 simply because it will be sitting around deteriorating otherwise. Its a 320 CDi. I bought it in Rainham Kent in late January 2014 with practically every receipt from new, with all but the final service carried out at MB dealers. Obviously someone with a bottomless pit of cash, as some of the repair and service receipts are scary! However, clearly a car that was well maintained and only for the owners spending the money on it, it would be scrap by now, no doubt. It has been my family workhorse since then and has proven to be a fantastic car, minor 210 foibles aside. The only service item that seemed to have been neglected at that time was the gearbox. I did the first oil change at 140k miles! It was working well to that point other than downshifts which were a bit iffy in slow traffic. It is now at 189k miles and I bought at 139k miles. I've done all servicing since including 'box, and have all documentation. I've only had one hiccup of note that required recovery, for the simple reason that it would not start after a period of being tricky to start. Traced by an indy to a failed camshaft position sensor! No big deal overall but it was a right PITA at the time. Only downside fir any potential buyer is the car is in NI (still in UK for any doubters) and I'm happy enough to cooperate with anyone travelling as far as I can.
Car is silver, ubiquitous MB colour! Starts and runs perfectly and the engine is a peach. Starts first time everytime without heaters. Uses no oil between changes. It is Avantgarde spec and from what I understand the following are factory options: Xenon headlights (relamped last October with Philips lamps), sunroof (fully functional and doesn’t leak), 7 seats, black leather and full electric driver seat with memory and part electric on passenger (leather may be standard on Avantgarde but not too sure on this point), front seat heating, indy fitted detachable towbar.
Usual nice Avantgarde spec applies otherwise. About a week ago everything worked but in the last few days, Thurs I think, the a/c has stopped cooling properly and there's a bit of a nose from behind the dash. I suspect, but haven't checked thoroughly, that I may have be low on gas and it has reached a point where it is now below limits. I'll check it out better when I get it parked up. If it needs regassing I'll get that done. Only 2 other gremlins: slight flare on 3rd to 4th in the auto box occasionally (a few times a month) and the wiring from the door button controls for the leccy seats may have a break or two at the hinge point as seat adjustment can be a bit sporadic. Memory function is fine so it will drive back to normal as the memory was set before this started a few months back. Tiny leak from turbo but apparently "they all do that". You might find an occasional drop on the floor much. I was going to recon it but never got round to it!
I've a Kenwood DAB unit fitted but have the original Audio 10 and theft code. I'll be putting the 10 back as I need the other unit for wife's Honda.
Interior is usual bombproof Merc fit and finish from that era with only a bit of wear and tear visible on the driver's seat. Externally practically no rust with the exception of the two (replacement I presume) front wings that are showing some rust chiming through now. Simplest solution there is to fit two pattern wings and paint them or leave as is until they fall apart. A few other minor rusty bits but certainly nothing detrimental. Under the rear subframe area and the subframe itself has the usual salty road deterioration but nothing that would cause any undue concern. I've Waxoyled anywhere in could any time I was under it.
Normal services aside I've done the following:
-2 gear box oil and filter changes and the most recent in late June was oil only.
-New front lower wishbones and adjuster bolts. Drives straight and true.
-New front ball joints.
-New front ARBs.
-New front Sachs shocks.
-Engine mounts.
-Rear subframe bushes.
-New rear disks and pads all round and full fluid flush and master cylinder which was acting the tit.
-New Crompton battery winter '15.
-New chassis to 'box bonding strap as the old one was fraying and corroding away in true Merc fashion.
-All the 3 main crappy plastic diesel pipes under the bonnet.
-New crankshaft and camshaft position sensors, during last summer's hiccup and recovery to good local indy.
-Gearbox pilot bush.
-3 2nd hand injectors to replace one that was leaking like mad and two that were borderline. Including new bolts and washers.
-Tyres are about 50% and are Hankook Optimo 4S all weather (M+S) and suit the car well.
-Plenty of TLC.
I think I have all receipts for all work done.
I've no pictures to hand but can email or link anyone to Dropbox with any, including any specific ones wanted. Includes Merc roof bars and locking key that are specific to 210 models. All servicing books, tools etc as supped when new are included as are 2 keys, one of which was refurbished recently by Merc Replacement Keys in England.
I'm not sure what it's worth but open to sensible offers. A genuine buyer will know how good these cars are and how much you will be getting for the money but I'm not really in a hurry to sell. MOT expires Jan '17. (I'll need to look up the date as I forget!) What a car it must have been when new! Any questions please ask.
