Hi,

can anyone enlighten me on a serial port remap. What is the difference between this and the ECU remap, if any?

I have a friend who had his W211 serial port remapped and he tells me it can not be detected by insurance companies etc.

Same thing, the map version code will show up if checked.

According to the company I was interested in using, they are correct.
After rewriting the ECU map, they go back in and change the version number to the original value which makes it look untouched.

Version no could be reset but the code / data will be different from the standard product. If it isn't what have you paid for? If the ins co is looking at a big payout they might think it worth checking. Esp if the car is a make model frequexntly ' chipped'.

East enough to do unless there's a checksum or encryption which would also need addressing.

It still records that there has been an upgrade of software and if they suspect anything can have the map read against a standard one.

I've known ECU's be interrogated after accidents.

Of course, as you declare the upgrade anyway, this doesn't matter.

Our Audi has a AMDTechnic tuning box, we can effectively write the "chipped" map to the car and then re-write the "original" map to the car as often as we like - all via the port under the dashboard.

Not sure if this is similar to you pals set up ?

The idea, I assume is that you can put the original map back in before each visit to the stealership.
