Serious incident in Glasgow

This incident has made me very thoughtful. Four days ago I walked the same streets this happened and at almost the same times, hunting down a Christmas pressie for SWMBO. Can't help dwelling on the thought that it would have been some pressie if I'd been there today.

There but for the grace of God.

Deep breath.

Quite . I was there with her ladyship and our 6 year old son about a week ago .

Nice headgear the ( I presume ) WPC has been issued with there :)

My guess ---she had been getting into the "Christmas Spirit " for policing the centre of Glasgow. Hard to get angry with someone wearing a bobble hat ;) - maybe good psychology to defuse potentially aggressive situations? I approve.:thumb: I doubt she envisaged this horror when she set out to work yesterday morning.:(

There always has to be at least one .

From the Daily Record website -

"Teenager arrested after allegedly posting an offensive message on Twitter about Glasgow lorry bin tragedy

The 19-year-old, believed to be Ross Loraine, from Sunderland, handed himself in to police yesterday evening after a number of complaints were made about the tweet.

He is alleged to have written: "So a bin lorry has crashed into 100 people in Glasgow eh, probably the most trash its ever picked up in one day that."

Northumbria Police said he was arrested on suspicion of making a malicious communication and had been bailed while they made further inquiries into the incident."

AMB usually have green epaulettes ?

TBH I'm uncomfortable with the fact that this is a matter for the police.

I can see where the law should apply to something that is targeted at an individual or a *pattern* of communication that is intended to incite an act or response.

But this really looks like somebody being silly and using the law seems heavy handed and also something that could be easily extended to mute genuine free speech.

Good point (my thought was that the Police epaulettes typically look a little bit more cluttered with the number on it).

I agree. A better solution for this moron would be escorted inside the mortuary and forcibly shown the results that he thought were worth making fun of.
See if he finds it such a joke then.

No matter the incident, the first joke will probably arrive not long after the first responders...it's life, we don't have to like it...but stupid to involve the police.

I think this is a new low even for you Dieselman. To compare the loss of six lives in this way to that of bowling pins is disgusting.

And is it any less of a trashy comment than that of the arrested teenager?

"Great" minds thinking alike, perhaps?

'nuff said, brucemillar, you hit the nail on the head.

I was driving through Glasgow yesterday, I know people in Glasgow, I have walked that Street. It is two days before Christmas and four families have lost loved ones. One family has lost two grandparents and a grandchild of 18. I'm sorry but I can't find anything even remotely funny about comparing those mown down with pins at a bowling alley. On my drive home I passed the fatal crash on the M74. I found that very disturbing as well. Life is so precious and yet so fragile. Dieselman, you are famed for speaking your mind but this time your comment was crass and cruel and I am actually shocked that anyone on here would post such a thing. Actually the word "disgusting " is about right.

I'm sure. A real tragedy.

Not sure about what calendar they use in Scotland.

Stop being a di.k. Nobody gives a dam about any calendar. Loss of life outweighs anything.

Get him banned permanently.

It's great to see the stirrers all join in one after the other...
