Hi Guys... & Gals.

Really need your help...

Have recently purchased a new W208 CLK 320 and I've recently changed the offside brake light and the offside tail light and now when I brake without the lights on the offside front side light comes on.....

However when I turn the lights on normally the brake lights are permanently on??

Any help really much appreciated guys... Booked into the stealer a week on Friday as they can't fit it in before.

I wouldn't take it to the stealers, find a local indie. Charge half of whatever your local stealer would pay

If they are double filiment have you got them in the wrong way round,,I know its near impossible but I have seen it, and were they the correct bulbs.

It must be an incorect bulb type

I think ,if as you have stated above, "and now when I brake without the lights on the offside front side light comes on....." then you have crossed wires somewhere. If pressing the brake pedal activates the offside front side light, something is amiss !

My thoughts as well,, the side lamps are wired per side you cant have the rear or front only, by making the rear one light, this lights the front one on the same side

These are possibaly SAM driven but I dont think so

I had a loan Rover 600 a long time back. Every time I applied the brakes the headlamps flashed! The dealers found the brake bulb had been incorrectly replaced with a single filament type. Put the correct bulb in and no more problems...

Yes almost certainly wrong bulbs fitted. Sometimes dash lights also light up when you brake if wrong bulbs are fitted.

Cheers guys.... I'll try the bulbs and let you know how I get on... Thanks again.

A Rover??!! How embarrassing!!

I know! I've been through counselling and am over it now :o

It was only a loan.. honest, really it was! Seriously..... Nurse!!!

wrong bulbs, i have done the same and have had same problem, cured when i checked and put the right bulbs in, and no problems since.
my car kept blowing the bulbs, which mercedes said was a common fault, and used to cost me on avrage £5 a month got loads from fleebay (cheap), then i got some phillips bulbs for the whole car and not had a problem for over 2 years.

Okay then....

I got in the car this morning and went to halfords.... No warning lights and all the main lights appeared to be working fine.. So i didn't even go into halfords and buy any replacement bulbs however when i left halfords and was half way home LIGHT DEFECTIVE warning message comes up and it's doing the exact same thing????

Argghhhhh What to do? Replace all the bulbs and hope that it's not a defective wiring?

Yes, they're not that expensive and it will rule out one (the cheapest!)possibility.

Carefully retrace your foot steps on what you have done,, do not replace all of the bulbs as I think that this may be a CAN fault.

Your origianal bulbs may have been OK.

I think that the car may have to go on STAR,, an indie can test it
