The computer on my dash was telling me "Service A due in 5900 miles" so i thought i had 6 months mayb even longer before the service was due.

But this morning the dash was saying "service due in 29 days!" :( how can this change like that? and do i have to book it in for that exact day ??

Many Thanks

James

You service indicator is on a sort of combined distance/time basis. Basically the car requires a service annually OR at the mileage interval, whichever comes first... it seems you're about to hit the annual time. You don't have to book it for the exact day... any day will be fine and the next 12 months will start from there.

Regards,

thanks dave :) but you would recommend the nearer that time the better obviously ? or say a few weeks after would be ok ?

thanks

I would check with your dealer but I personally wouldn't be worried if I was a few weeks either side. I guess to be more precise, I would get it done within a couple of weeks of the date.

I f you need to "buy" yourself say an extra month before getting the service & your engine oil is nearer minimum than maximum on the dipstick add some fresh oil & assyst will up the time/mileage before next service.

thanks steve, Only thing is, i dont have a dipstick, any ideas on where i can purchase one as the car has never had one.... also how do i know to put the same oil in that it already has?

does the computer automatically respond to the oil that has been added, and alter the time/mileage as you say ??

many thanks,

james

Hi james,so your engine oil level is shown on your dash only(i.e. engine oil level ok on start up)if that is the case then you can only add when prompted by the dash display(i.e. if when ignition is on it displays engine oil add 1ltr then add 1ltr & the onboard computer will then recalculate how long before next service mileage & date wise)hope thats clear:thumb:

That won't work on the later cars with fixed interval (12mth) servicing.

And whatever you do, don't add oil un-necessarily. Over-filling is a REALLY BAD thing.

The op hasn't said what year his car is,yes over filling is potentially damaging which is why i said make sure your oil level is nearer minimum than max before adding;)

The op hasn't said what year his car is,

Ah - apologies. There's an almost identical post on a 2yr old car elsewhere and my brain connected them.

Looking back, it looks like the OPs car is a facelift W203, so adding oil, if there's space :) , may well extend the interval. I wonder if that still works once the display has changed from miles to days, though.

hi rory, yes my car is a w203 54 plate.... i will check tomorrow on the dash, if the engine requires oil, but would i be able to buy a dipstick ? to give me two readings of the oil level ??

many thanks all
