Was a E63 Judder mobile! Now, no car.... :/
Hi all,

Collected my new to me E63 Wagon today - all lovely so far. I have a question regarding service history. Firstly the infotainment system doesn't actually seem to contain any service history info? Seems a bit daft since they don't give you paper print outs anymore. Secondly there seems to be no easy way to get the service history without emailing Mercedes with 2 proofs of ID and the V5.

The car was registered on the 31/10/18 - mileage was 2192 when I picked it up. They serviced it yesterday but I noticed a sticker on the window which states the diff axle oil should be changed at 1875 miles. My fear is they never did the axle oil change as per the schedule.... to be honest I never even thought to ask about that I just assumed since it was a Mercedes car and had always been in Mercedes care (Manager's car) that it would have been done.

If my worst fears are confirmed that they didn't do it at 1875 - is this going to be a major issue? I mean 2192m isn't massively away from 1875m but its still a worry.

Mercedes UK told me that the warranty would still be intact yesterday based on the fact the service is technically 2 months late (due Oct 2019).

Thanks all!

There is lots of threads here about is the axle/diff oil changed needed or not and it seems to vary between model years and dealerships. I think the consensus is if it has a sticker then the diff is manufactured by a supplier that requires the oil to be changed.

I would ask the dealer to change it, if they say its been done, ask them to produce evidence to support it. If they can't produce evidence then in accordance with the warning sticker still in the window (which is usually removed when it has been done) you would insist that its changed.

They say the service was yesterday but I'll find out for sure when I speak to them on Monday.... on another note and I'm sure this has been talked about before the car seems to have a real serious tyre judder when turning with significant lock applied. I.E mini roundabouts and turning on/off the drive way.

My Mrs has already said she can't live with a car that does that! Not sure what to feel at the moment!

It's the tyres skipping as they grip and slip whilst the wheels scribe different arcs in tight turns. Annoying but nothing to be concerned about and if it really annoys you then fit winter tyres when the weather is colder and it won't do it as the sipes in the tread blocks allow them to squidge.

The potential issue is that the MB central computer only holds data regarding scheduled services, but not regarding other type of work, so if the diff oil change wasn't done during a scheduled service, then it might not be recorded on the MB central computer.

In this case, it will be recorded locally with the dealer who carried it out, the difficulty will be finding out who this dealer was...

But if you are in luck then it will be recorded on the MB central computer.

Also, ask the dealer for a printed copy of the Digital Service Record for the service they just did.

It will have at the bottom a SecCode, which is a security code that will allow you to access the car's service history online and view or print it out yourself in future (once you have opened a Mercedes me account online and registered the car's VIN under your account).

As for the instrument cluster, if you into the service menu, it should show - after the carry-out the first service - 'Next Service B1 in 365 days' (or 'in 16,000 miles') etc, but that's about it.

As for the car being a managmnet car, this could cause an issue with identifying the supplying dealer (who may have carried out the diff oil change).

A managmnet car is one that was supplied to corporate buyer under Mercedes Benz fleet management scheme, so the delivery may have been done directly from MB HQ, and not via a local dealer.

Apparently if the VRM starts with a 'K' then the car likely started its life as a fleet managmnet car that was registered by MB HQ and not by a local dealer.

To clarify, there's nothing wrong with the car being supplied as a fleet car - it's just that it could make it more difficult to know what dealer the first keeper might have used for the diff oil change.

And... someone with a very low mileage car on a 12 month lease might not have bothered to book the car in for a diff oil change just weeks before the car went back anyway.....

Just go online and register for Mercedes Me, all the service info is there but you will need the SecCode from the last service printout to activate it

The potential issue is that it is not clear if the diff oil change will show in the car's service history (which usually only shows the scheduled services).

Then, because this will be the car's first service from new, he'll need to request the Digital Service Record for this service from the dealer in order to get hold of the SecCode.

I added a gearbox service to my B service last year, it wasn't due but it does show on my service history as a separate item in Mercedes Me.

Maybe if there is some doubt over confirming as to whether the Diff oil change has been carried out then ask dealership to carry out said oil change as there is no obvious proof that the servicing task has been done.

In my opinion it’s unlikely to have been a car used by a Manager or Employee or Mercedes UK or a Mercedes franchise dealership, as 12 months sounds too long. I suspect it was more likely a 12 month lease.

Both Mercedes and a number of dealerships supply cars like this to celebrities, sports personalities and other “influencers”, often at an incentivised rate. These turnover quickly compared to normal finance agreement terms, but longer than MBUK company cars.

The alternative could be a posh hire car, again 12 months or 9000 ish miles is the common handover point on those, but the mileage can vary. Well used hire cars go back sooner as the miles rack up more quickly than the time.

My guess would be some kind of short term hire car which was returned before any scheduled maintenance became due.
