my dad has just had his 07 plate c class estate 200k sport serviced and it has left him bemused , ,its 16months old & has managed 12500miles before the system indicated A service required, ,it now says 10,000 miles until next service , ,can the number of miles be determined by the service staff he is wondering?,,

In short, yes!

But do a search on the forum, there are many threads discussing this subject.

Service intervals can be influenced by the quality oil used, or more correctly, by what the technician tells ASSYST has been used. Also later cars and your father's may well fall into this category, now have fixed interval servicing.

Even Mercedes dealers are inconsistent in their explaination of how it all works!

It's a very complex and contentious subject. As said, do a search of the forum.

The counter is reset to 10,000 miles unless long life oil is used then it's 13,000 miles due to telling the car that long life oil is being used.

Either way it then counts down but not uniformly, so 10,000 miles may well become 12,500 again or even more.
