What's the forum's view on service kits?

For example if you had a C200 and could buy a kit comprising of the following for £49.99 inc postage would you?

10 ltrs semi synth
Airfilter (gen MB)
Oilfilter (gen MB)
Sparkplugs x 4 (gen MB)
Windscreen Washer concentrate (genuine MB)
Pollen or dust filter (gen MB)

Obviously prices would depend on the model, but is there a market out there for such a kit?

It's a good idea apart from the fact that you don't invariably change your spark plugs or pollen filter every service.

I think, ahem, Halfords do this with there special offers (I know it's not genuine MB) when they sell oil/filters etc together for a reduced price

Without the pollen and plugs it would work out at around £35.

I think it is a good idea, buy the kit and get the service done at an MB dealer, just labour to pay - stamp in book, job's a good'un. However, in reality I suspect dealers will only let you supply oil and not parts for standard servicing, no doubt there is a healthy margin in service parts.

It would be handy, and cost little, to include a sump plug washer.

Why?

It's your car and you should be able to get it serviced with what you wish. As long as the oil was to MB spec and the filters genuine then I cannot see a problem.

I recently took my bike to George White's for its annual service and told them that I wanted to use a can of Castrol GPS (they use GPS anyway) that I had. No problem at all and the sercive cost was just £89!! Stamp in the book all done for another year.... I suspect they would have had no problems if I had supplied my own oil filter too.

Say for a CLK W209,

Would you be able to make a kit for Service A, Service B?

Like the idea! :)

Service A

10 Ltrs of 5W40 Synthetic
Oil Filter
Air Filter

£59.99 inc shipping

Service B
10 Ltrs of 5W40 Synthetic
Oil Filter
Air Filter
4 plugs
Fuel Filter
Active filter

£200 inc shipping (!)

This plan may only work with the older models...

Looks like a good idea to me.........would you sell kits for Smart cars too?

Ouch!!!

Have you based this on any particular model or is it just a generic list? Obviously I understand that the cost/amount of plugs etc will differ dependant on model.

That's for a CLK200K

The £80 active filter and the £79 fuel filter kill things a bit, even the plugs are almost £10 each, compared with W202 plugs at £1.70 (retail) a throw.
Plus 10 litres of fully synth is £28 compared with 10 litres of semi at £17...

I'd have thought a lot of people would go for it - possibly worth bundling brake pads in as well .

My regime tends to be oil and filter every 6000 miles , then with plugs and pads every 12000 along with anything else as required .

If that's for 229.3 or 229.5 oil then that's about half the best price I've ever seen it - I think you'd do good business just selling the oil. What brand/model is it?

That's how much it would cost me:

Specs are:

"SAE: 5W40. API: Sl/CF. ACEA: 02 A3/B3/B4"

Motrio by Nissan/Renault

I reckon the fuel filter is the dear part here.... but does it need to be changed at each Service B?

Wow, just reread the thread - whats an Active Filter?

Ta!
