I'm thinking of taking out an MB Service Plan and got the service agreement drawn up. The only part I'm not sure about is that the agreement states servicing at any 'Official Dealership' but the schedule states a 'Nominated Dealership' - the place I bought it from. I may not want to go back there for services as there are other Official MB dealers closer to me.

Does anyone have the prices of A and B services for a petrol A Class?

Just received MB's latest servicing price list. A-Class Minor Service: £179.00, Major Service £319.00. (They don't seem to call them A and B service now.)

There are also the following "additional operations" listed:
Once at first major service: Parking brake adjust - £14.00
Every 2 years: Brake fluid change: £59.00
Replace combination filter - £54.00
Once at 3 years/37,500 miles: replace auto oil & filter - £208.00
Every 4 years/37,500miles: Spark plugs - £109.00
/50,000miles: Air filter - £50.00

Thanks. Looks like £23 a month is good value at those prices, as it includes the additionals.

No problem. It's those additionals that can come as a big surprise.

I was pretty sure you could use the service plan at any dealer or service centre and I haven't been asked to nominate one at inception, but the MB dealer I bought from does not do servicing so might be different. Maybe they fill in that field to make you think it is mandatory to use them?

Being able to use any dealer would seem logical, you wouldn't want to drive the length of the country if you happened to move during ownership.

I am still unsure about the service plan, I have a 5 month old coupe and too be fair I am clocking the miles up on it. Estimated around 15,000 a year.

Can a service plan be taken out at this stage and is it really worth it?

IIRC you can take your car to any MB dealer - I took my plan out with a dealer in Devon and had the first service in Derby - The dealer 'found' my car on the system and saw it had a service plan attached - work done, nothing extra to pay -

Is it worth it? - well I'm not sure it saves that much money, but regular monthly payments works for my circumstances rather than having a big lump go out in one go

You can take out a service plan at any time in the first 12 months and before the 1st service is due.

You can take it out on cars up to 7 years old however the cost varies

Details Here On The MB Website

The link only lists prices "New vehicle - up to 12 months old and before first service". I am getting one on my 10-plate A180 at the same price as new (£23 a month). Because it's just over 2 years old I can have a maximum of 4 services (ie years 3 to 7).

Interestingly the new and used service care prices are the same for A-class, B-class manual & SL. The others are a bit more expensive for the Used Service Care (>12 months and up to 7 years), except the AMG (63, 500 & 600) versions that aren't covered at all.

I'm considering taking up the service plan immediately after the first (and less expensive) service for 36 months. That way I get 2 major and 1 minor service plus the additional items valued at a total of £1617 for 36 x £31 = £1116. Saves me £501 and spreads the costs.:) I only run a risk of losing out if servicing charges reduce considerably - but I'd be so busy looking at the flying pigs I wouldn't notice!

I have the service plan on mine, there's also a balancing kind of thing so that if you back out they will do a partial refund or if you change car. Seemed like a good enoug plan to me but ask me in three years when I have used it more!
