W207 E250 CDI Coupe
My car is a W207 E250 CDI coupe 2011

I need an oil service, and transmission service

Mercedes online (Dartford,Kent) is quoting

Service A £271.50 (is that just an oil and filter change?)

Automatic transmission service £416.09

Seems really highly priced, would i be better to get the oil service done to keep the history and the rest done elsewhere?

Hi
Yes the £271 will be oil/filter, supply your own oil and that price will reduce significantly
Try keys Mercedes bexleyheath for a quote on your gearbox.

Thanks, do you know what oil i can use for my car?

Do i need to change air, fuel and cabin filters? wasn't done on last service.

Will try keys for gearbox service.

Some inside info on vehicle repairs.

For most owners the only common denominator is pricing!.
Hence customers phone around for a price!
But what are you getting for that price. Now there's a question.

Remember overheads are the biggest common denominator in any business. In short what does it cost to keep the lights on?
Business related tax/overheads might be cheaper here against there and so on!
So raw out the door pricing isn't a good common denominator, quite frankly!

Business stats show that about 80% of all potential customers are good customers, BUT 20% are the cream puffs.
Cream puffs NOT poofters OK ?
Those that simply throw the keys at you and say fix it! They don't question the bill!
Then the rest are a sliding customer base who will do some things not others and price compare etc. But you can easily sell a job--remember this is retail sales OK .
The last 20% are split up into a 17.5 % sector--These are your price shoppers. They will phone hundreds of shops trying to get the best price on say a spark plug change and a basic service.
Sometimes you can sell a job but in about 50% of that its a time waste on the phone or maybe a PR exercise at best!
Then the 2.5 % Time wasters, the crazy folk that just want to converse cars.
Time is money so you have to learn to be polite and cut the conversation!
Which type of customer are you? -Now there's a question?

Your in London? Go to Terry @ Wayne Gates :D

Having car done at a good specialist like Terry shouldn't deter any future buyer.

Merc-Pro in Wymondham, Norfolk are highly recommended. Bit of a hike from Dartford but Wymondham is a lovely place for a wander and spot of lunch. My C204 gearbox service cost me £199 all in. The recent B service cost me about £250

The £271.50 will also include essentials such as checking your exterior and interior lights work, tyre tread depth and windscreen washer reservoir is topped up.....got to be worth the money for that!

Interesting post.

However, you missed out the type of customer who bitches about a dusty dashboard after a free car wash.

Your welcome

Enter your car details here

http://lite.servicemercedes.co.uk/pc/pc_start.asp. Or here https://www.mymercedesservice.co.uk/home

It should inform you what extras you require at your next service.

If you email Mb Newcastle with your reg number they will inform you which oil your car requires -

Just get it all done at an independent mercedes specialist in one go, the one mentioned above is highly recommended on here (Wayne Gates)

Ive just had a 2012 w204 c250 cdi in for

Oil + filter
Air filter
Fuel filter
Brake pads all round
Front disks
Auto box service

I bought the oil online and the auto box kit from Newcastle merc parts counter as i wanted to make sure the correct stuff was used.

Set me back £750 overall using a local independent garage.

Oh they are out there alright!

It reminds me a of a Sprinter owner that rolled onto the forecourt with a rough running engine/cutting out!
A quick look at he engine and yes you need a wiring harness, the injector section was toasted !
Pleading total poverty we patched up the bare wires for free as a courtesy PR job.
He had to hang around for a bit as all the blokes in the shop were busy fixing paying customers cars. But we got it sorted! For free!
Then he sent me a caustic e mail saying it took us too long!:wallbash:

Just do it yourself, rocket science it ain't and you'll save a packet, also, at least you know the jobs you pay for are actually being done.

I want to keep the service history otherwise would have done it myself as its so easy

Is it just me or do other people think paying £200 per hr for main dealer servicing is just daylight robbery? Even some solicitors don't charge that much??

In todays world of HP and PCP, punters are queuing out the door to get that stamp in the book to keep the residual value as per their agreement and hence dealers can't afford to waste too much time fixing your car with a £5 part when replacing the whole assembly takes just 2 hrs. Their mechanics will work 8am-6pm every day and it makes more business sense to service as many customers as possible and replace as many expensive parts as possible.

Oh but hey you do get free coffee, pastries and now the latest craze, undercover traffic light drop off areas to keep your hair dry.

I'll step down from my soap box now..............ahem.

Apparently a full service history is only worth around £ 500 added to a second hand cars value, so two services and your £500 is gone, I guess it depends how long you intend on keeping the car, three services and your out of pocket, if your like me and do oil and filter changes every 4-5k, getting a garage to do the work can end up being very expensive, besides, when a car gets to about five years and older, your better off buying it on condition and spec, rather than miles or service, do the job yourself, keep all the receipts as proof, then write it in the service book.

I totally agree, FSH doesn't mean a thing, both my 2010 BMW and my 2012 C class have full service history, the day we bought the BMW the pad ware indicator came on and the Merc engine oil looked as though it had been in since new [emoji849]

That's my scenario exactly. I only do a little over 4000 miles per year and I intend to keep the car long term. Probably not 21 years like the 190e but long enough that it won't be worth enough for a service history to make much difference. It's not as if there is even a service book to stamp so I keep a record of everything done to the car on an excel spreadsheet. To be honest the financial considerations are only part of it. Perhaps I've been unlucky but a trip to the dealership always seems to end in wasted time and grief for me and I can't be doing with it.
