Hi all, my CLS CDI W218 is due for a B service in about three weeks. This is the first service since ive taken ownership about 12 months ago. Im comptent enought to carry out the service myself. How do people record their service if they do it themselves?

Keep all receipts. That's about it...

You can also buy on eBay a generic service book (or even an MB-branded one) and record the services yourself in the old-fashioned way.

MB moved in 2007 to Digital Service Book (DSB). Only MB dealers and certain specialist garages can add records to the official DSB.

Keep receipts but be aware that many people won’t buy cars without proper service records.

It’s all relative to the value/age of the car and how long you intend to keep it.

Remember although you know your capabilities, the next buyer may not and would prefer service history from a specialist/dealer.

With cars in the past I've created a Word document and updated as I go, with all work done and dates/mileage recorded.

Also keep any receipts for parts or other outsourced work.

Sold loads of cars with this history and people have always been happy once you show them the detail and also by the fact that I keep my cars mint inside and out.

That's what I do , I keep receipts for any parts , and fluids , and I note in the original service books when each job was done . Also annotating on the receipts what they related to .

TBH , I'd rather have that , than stamps from certain dealers ....

I’m not a fan of this electronic recording. In this case you just can’t beat a book and paperwork.

As said keep the receipts. I also keep a spreadsheet (bit OTT I know) which has the date, mileage, work done etc so it makes it easier to see what was done, when and by whom. On our other (older) car I tick the relevant boxes in the service book and put 'see receipts'.

One must move with the times........ :D

I have all services, MOT's and any repairs on an Excel spreadsheet.

I quite like using a spreadsheet, but now I do it all in One Note, its nice an easy to do and I can attach all my receipts from online purchases. Plus it works quite well on tablets and phones and all backs up to the cloud so I can access it anywhere. Useful when I need a VIN number or something as the reg wont go through.

Me too, plus any out of pocket costs like bulbs. It's all there with a box file of supporting paperwork.
I also have a spreadsheet logging actual service details against the MB schedules. Created it for me to ensure stuff was done right, not for the next owner.
