Did A service and reset service reminder. All ok
Now getting "Service B overdue by 3200 mi" on display at start up.
When I go through: Assyst Plus> Full Service> Yes> 299.51> Confirm, it now shows "Full service could not be completed"
Tried all sorts, has anyone come across this and is there a fix?
Thanks to all who read this...

Maybe this is the reason? There is a software glitch in Assyst plus that requires an update using the Xentry (part of STAR) system on-line to MB. Although Xentry is widely available, or at least cloned copies are, it has to be the official MB version with an on-line connection to MB but because it is expensive not all indies have it. I found this out when my S213 went in for service to my regular indie on Monday. When they did the service indicator reset, the indicator came up with the message that service B is due in 25,400 miles. Surprisingly despite being an MB specialist who I have been using for many years, they were unable to run the update as they did not have 'the machine' to do it, and referred me to another local specialist who could do it. The update takes about 45 minutes.

Apparently, the glitch only happens on the 5th service with the reset of the service indicator, so it's a one-time only fix. I had it done today. All of the software gets updated - power train control unit, engine electronics, transmission control and selective catalytic reduction which is the technology that helps to reduce diesel engine emissions. There is more information on the 'other' forum where I also participate under a different user name - B service cleared now A service showing

Yep. It needs a software update. Its a PITA when this happens.

I live in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. Anyone recommend a good indie within 50 miles or less?
Once more thanks to all replies!
All appreciated!

Your local main dealer may do it for free. Say you service it yourself.

Thanks. On the case today. Will update to this thread once I get it solved.

My local MB dealer failed to reset the service indicator fir my B service because it was carried out ‘too close’ to the A service (yes it is on a service plan so annual service done even thought it was only driven 40 miles in between services).

Solution was to drive the car for over 50 miles before taking it back to my MB dealership to get the service indicator reset!!!

Booked into local indie in Ayr this Tuesday. They say common fault. Will report back one job done.
Still waiting on my local main dealer in Ayr to get back to me, called them on Thursday.
This could also be part of my problem. I don’t really bother with the service indicator since I started to service by myself.
New filters and oil every year, approximately 4,000 miles. Changed fuel filter last year 21,000 miles. Change brake fluid every year. Will change auto box fluid/filer in a year or two. Use good quality parts - Imo MB don’t make service parts or fluids. So will check out stuff as I go along for quality.
Since do it myself, full service including brake fluid costs less than a good night out.
Won’t be selling car for years, so don’t worry about service record. ( Had last est for 25 years- Volvo: did 350000 miles then body got too bad to keep and other stuff. Tow my caravan with 25 year old Pajero.)
But your point is very valid, possibly cleared indicator too soon. Will check out tomorrow. Appreciate your info. Thanks!

Defo was closed, was raining at the time.

I had the same problem following a service, with my Mercedes C displaying "Service B overdue by 16000 mi".
I could not reset this - my experience was as in the first post from Tonyze.
Some weeks later, I had driven 100 miles futher and the warning message was "Service B overdue by 16100 mi".
I tried again to reset the service indicator and this time it worked. Very happy that I didn't spend any money.

So this is my advice to anyone with the problem. It feels like a software bug. Don't bother going to a garage initially, just drive about 100 miles and try again and maybe you'll be OK.
