There must be something against ebay rules for that, and even with the "alternative" merc spelling, it seems to have attracted some attention...

as I've said before - what use is a service history unless you are buying a car from the dealer who's stamped the book.

My bet is that about 80% of the "full service history" cars sold through the trade have benefitted from one of these (or similar) stamps.

Selling the MB one may be illegal but there is nothing to stop you getting your own stamp made up saying you are an independent MB specialist.

I'll see if I can find the part number ;)

don't all mercs haves services recorded at MB computers anyway? - so this won't be that useful???

If they do they will not give information to the Customers, (Unlike BMW and VW).

yes and no, but they (and no other marque's dealer) will divulge any info until you are the owner of the car, by which time it's too late.

Yes the services are logged on the computers but usually only at the dealers that did the work, there must be some central database although that can often be wrong.

Sadly, full service history, service book fully stamped etc etc etc are really quite worthless when it comes to buying a second hand car.

Also, with MBUK taking over a lot of franchised dealerships tracing any records prior to the takeover is almost impossible.

My Audi A6 has a full service history with Audi up to 170,000, and when I phoned my local dealer and asked for copies of the service records the very next day a huge envelope arrived with a complete print out of everything the car had ever had done with them. :D :D

Now that is customer service, and I was'nt even a customer of theirs!

The cost, nothing, not even postage!!!!

I got a full list of every filter, washer and drop of oil that went into my first MB purchase before I bought it (second hand from trader) from Monarch in Tamworth!

I couldn't do that with my present car because it was serviced at a different stealership every time.

As my Audi was serviced at several dealers, I assume that they have a central database that dealers have access to.

MB must have as well surely??

Caveat emptor!

However, when I bought a used Volvo from an independent specialist, I rang the franchised dealer (who had serviced it) from the salesman's office. Volvo confirmed the authenticity of the service history. The salesman didn't bat an eyelid, or call me a timewaster. So I can recommend Phil Whittaker Cars, who are in the Reading area, for a used Volvo!

Uh-oh,.... when I bought my car I just assumed the service history was genuine....Should I call them and possibly find out something I don't want to find out, or live in doubt....
