Is £690 for an a5 service from Mercedes too much

You will find its cheaper if you take out a service plan. Is your car now 5 years old so looking at an autobox service as well? If so you save hundreds doing it on the service plan. Mine was £35 a month for 12mths. It's really bizarre as if you take one out at year 4&5 (the most expensive service years) you save loads. Even the independent Mercedes guys couldn't beat it

As above....

My car is over 14 yrs old, and I still find Service Care plan a better value - I did last A service myself, but put it back on its Service Care plan at the end of last year, and just had a D service (B + 4; 6; 8 and 12) done today, as a first of three over three years, with ATF, coolant and fuel filter (a tank out job in 169 petrol) due next year, all for £32 a month.

Does the ATF get called for again? I've always thought it was a one-off change, but MB does keep changing things. Ask if you can have the old fuel filter.

Yup, they changed the CVT 722.8 guidelines from once after 37.5k miles (60k km), to every five years, so had one done by MB Northampton in 2016, next one is confirmed for 2021.
Being of a very trusting nature, I mark (very discretely) my filters before it goes to MB ;)
Might not be as bold, as to ask for an old filter back, but I will know if the tank was off - had a filler neck pipe thingy changed recently (as the old one rusted terribly), and we didn't use the OEM jubilee clip (even though I bought them), which I'm sure MB will.

It looks like MB offers a min of 2 services on the service plan now.....so my B5 (ATF) + brake fluid then an A will probably be cheaper at an indy

MB service plan is coming in at £910 for 2 years...

Its not expensive for a main dealer I suppose.

My MB specialist is doing my A7 service for £400 which is the ATF

AFAIK A5 includes the standard A service + air filter, fuel filter and the brake fluid

Thanks for the replies

I did ask about the service plan . For two years it was £515 up front then 43 per month which worked out about a £100 saving over two years but you pay in advance

That sounds incorrect they never ask for a upfront payment, i took a plan out last week for a friend no upfront payment was paid, i would double check.

You can pay the whole figure outright or pay mothly -

they do ask for an upfront payment of the next service is imminent...

I took out a 4 year service plan for my E63, I paid for its first service myself, so then the plan will do years 2, 3, 4 & 5.
Its £40.83 per month.

I enquired a hour ago about service plan with my local dealer, normally £45/ month for three years- three services but cos my next service is in 80 days they wanted me to pay for three services over two years which put the monthly price up quite a bit. Still deciding.....

seems perfectly reasonable to me - the total cost is the same and MB ensures it is fully paid by the time of the last service

apparently some people think it is ok to cancel the DD after the last service, even though they haven't paid for all the work...

I totally agree, I wasn't complaining, just highlighting that if you go for a service plan close to when you want your next service then additional costs may be incurred.

Didn't with me. I took service plan out when I booked it in. The dealer actually pointed it out saving me fair bit

+1.
