Greetings!

So today I was forced to drive the whale to the hospital (for the uninitiated, the whale is an automatic Chrysler voyager that belogs to my mother and the reason I had to drive it was that I'm not capable of driving a manual safely with a broken pinky)

Guess what I found? Its desperately in need of a service! Not really a full service (the interim service got done not too long ago) but a brake service. I'm no mecchanic but imo:
-the rear drum brakes are binding
-the front brake-pads are worn, the left one probably down to the metal (or it needs new disks)

A Chrysler independent specialists wants £100 just to look at the brakes and tell me there is something wrong (nss! they squeal with every rotation of the wheel, and when you brake the front wheels "rumble!")

Does anyone know of someone good? Not a merc, I know (thats why its not in the "specialists" area). I can't even take the wheels off in my current condition (in theory, I'm not even allowed to type - yeah, right!) so I can't really have a look myself!

Thanks,
Michele

Use Kwik Fit on the Uxbridge road heading into Hayes or National on uxbridge road (West Drayton turn off) for free checks. They will put the vehicle up on the ramp and tell you what's required - remember you are not under any obligation to carry out the work with them.

I would also enquire about servicing from them as they sometimes have offers on but check which parts they replace and sometimes cheap offer prices are misleading.

The cheapest most of the times for Brake related works are Grays on Uxbridge road just before you hit Southall - but I personally cant bear to go there now as they are not really trained in customer service!

Good luck!!

Well George Fraser is in Wembley....

Alternatively, I always use my local... Bushey Hall Garage - they have serviced my ALL my cars for years, from S55 AMG, BMW M5 through to the family Micras.

I've heard good things before about the garage near costco! That said, the closer the better (I'm scared of driving the car! The font disks (at least one) "grumbles" when you brake!)

As for Grays, are they the ones behind the Texaco? If so, there is no way I'm going there again! (My car failed its MOT there for "made up" reasons!)

Thanks for the advice, I guess I'll call Kwik Fit today and see what they say; maybe talking to them will give me enough courage to drive to Bushey Hall (no idea how I'll get back if the car can't be done "while I wait" - but hey, I'll burn that bridge when I get to it :p)

Thanks
Michele

Just burn the Chrysler instead. That way you don't need to get the work done..

Don't temp me... I've threatened on multiple occasions to put the car on eBay while my parents are out of the country! (like this week)

I will admit that without the rear seats, the car is cavernous and can act like a transit van quite wel - that said, with a 3.3l petrol engine, it consumes enough to pay the congestion charge in fuel!

My ideal scenario would be to trade this for a landie - I could drive across Africa finally!
